Well, well, well ladies & gentlemen. Looks like we may have a serious snow event on our hands! I know a lot of us got a good dumping in Feb, so excluding that event, I can safely say that i think we all deserve it. Its been too long. I just hope there are no last minute downgrades. Keep your praying hat on, and hope it all goes to plan.

All 12z models give a pretty decent snow set-up on Wednesday-Thursday, still going to be a lot of uncertainty but I'd imagine at the very least several inches widely over this zone.

After that event winds look like turning more ENE which should drag a hefty amount of snow showers in from the east as well...after and just who knows, the GFS has been toying with bringing in a strong frontal system close to or into the SE/EA, something to watch but very far away yet...

Regardless of details it looks like a really bitter spell coming up, should be seeing some ice days from Tuesday onwards

Very chilly here already at -1.6 and dropping very fast. Looking foward to a cold night tonight. Hopefully beat my record low this winter of -4.7 :)

Not so sure about that. Indeed, given what the models are showing currently, a foot of snow looks a real possibility in places like Kent. Anymore than that will be hard to achieve. What will really build up the totals will be strong convective showers from the north sea as well as a Thames streamer so if the south east can see these materialise, then I think up to a foot would be achieved.

Looking on par with February last year at the moment.

IF the 12z came off a foot would be fairly widespread along the eastern part of EA/SE...this is because we get a front on Tuesday (though models don't make a huge amount out of it) then another front develops and sweeps down from the north as a shortwave forms in the North Sea, that could well stall but big uncertainties with that feature still, not certain to happen by any means...then hefty convective showers between Friday-Saturday followed by a possible big frontal event...

For now there is too much uncertainty with the exacts of the pattern, esp since the big models disagree with the set-up for Wednesday-Thursday though regardless it should be snowy...

Im going to post here. Not sure ever if I qualify for south east or central south, but this forum more active.

Upgrades on snow potential now for Tues and Weds, finally, i am told, the Meto have bought about this warning in our bespoke casts ant certainly the warning areas have extended on their website compared to this morning.

That front now looks certaint to cross, rather than completely fizzle and amounts will be interesting. Right when I think the 6th is projected to be the most depressing day of the year!

Will this snow event be worse than feb 09 ?

The models seem to think so, one of them GFS will probably distribute a foot of snow across a lot of the region by the end of the weekend. I got 6 inches on the 2nd Feb 09 so hopefully it will be as good or as the models think better :)

Well in preparation for this weeks freeze I tried to buy some salt grit from B&Q today. When I asked whether they had any, the answer was no. "Oh so you have sold old?" "Well we did have some but the council bought it all". Doesn't bode well if the council (Essex) are buying from from a high street retailer!?
