Incredibly clear night here, I was just lucky enough to see a shooting star crossing the sky above the mill pond like North Sea. Not only that but West Ham are beating Arsenal it doesn't get much better than this. Presently 2.5c

Could somebody clarify something for me, has the big snow event moved back to Saturday or is it still due on Friday with the superb charts for Saturday being a top up? Hope that makes sense.

The answer to that everyone would like to know! Personally I think at the moment, it looks to be on par with that period. I think people underestimate how difficult it can be to achieve such high snowfall totals. To get a foot of snow, which quite of few places in the south east achieved last winter, it would take a good few intense convective showers and some heavy prolonged snowfall (perhaps a Thames streamer).

The fact that the Met Office have issued an advisory for these showers suggests that they could well dump quite a bit of snow within a short time. I still think a foot of snow, perhaps alittle more is possible across some parts of EA and the south east, but don't be expecting widespread 12" falls, as this will most likely not be achieved. That's my view anyway, personally I'd be getting excited for 6" falls. This looks like being surpassed by quite a margin late week!

i can go back to 1976 that was a good year!!!

Will this snow event be worse than feb 09 ?

Na can't see it myself, would be surprised if I had the same. I can't comment on the East though because I don't know what they got in Feb 09. Best not get too excited. Lots of snow possible but I'm not sure it'll be so widespread and can't see it hitting these parts. Essex and Kent should be favoured though!

To my mind those in Sussex and Kent should be looking first to Wed afternoon before looking towards Friday. There appears to be a significant snow event in advance of any forecast for later on in the week. This has been suggested for a little while now.

I'm not sure it'll be as potent as Feb 09 but I suspect the snow window is many times longer then with that set-up, really we could add snowfall anywhere from Tuesday onwards through to next week and given the profiles we have I'd suspect once we have snow on the ground and settled it'll freeze and then you'll see max temps depressed as a result, probably would struggle to get above -1C in most places I'd imagine once we get snowcover.

As for snowfall overall, itss till far too early to call despite obviously the excitment the 12z have brought up thus far...however there is certainly at least a reasonable chance of a big snow event.

Well, I'm miles away from you, in freezing North Norfolk. we've dropped from 0.0 ( at 15:40) to -5.3 now (17.38), so that's a drop of 5.3 degrees in almost exactly 2 hours. Totally clear, Dewpoint? -7.5

Don't forget people that FEB 09 was a very localised area , many areas of mid kent... east kent a MASSIVE area was unaffected by the deep snowfall. Some had none! :D
