Why??

My school is a very large school, used to be two schools, and involves quite a walk up a steep hill between the two sites. When it snows and freezes over it becomes very dangerous if not gritted. The school has run out of grit and so has the local council, meaning that no paths or steps can be cleared of ice.

I'm not complaining, usually have maths from 9 until 4 on a Thursday :)

Well ive seen 1 from the bbc going for snow on sunday for anywhere east of roughly birmingham, and ive seen metoffice advanced weather warnings for all southern areas on sunday so really it is being forecast, although as expected there not really going to talk about something which is still 5 days away very much, maybe come friday evening if things still look good they will.

Below -1c here already, it is going to be a seriously cold night, certainly the coldest night of the winter.

Why aren't any forecasts going for snow on Sunday???

You aren't watching the same forecasts as me clearly. Sky News had snow graphics over half of the UK from Lincolnshire right across to the Republic of Ireland southwards.

Still uncertain though. It could be that the snow is concentrated more over the SE.

I'm on about netweather/weatheroutlook/metcheck

I should have been more clear, forecasting nothing for me at the moment. Like you say, 4 days yet

That will be because the GFS is not forecasting much precipitation further than 2 days ahead.

Doesn't mean there won't be any though.

I would ignore all them forecasts, automatically updated based on the most recent gfs and very unreliable.

Netweather isn't too bad

The written forecasts are good, the ones which you put in your place to get the next 5 days etc are the same as the others.

Ah Bliss lots of snow on the ground and a top up of snow this morning.

Outside sensor reading -1.1c already.

I keep seeing odd blips of snow on the radar, they seem to appear from no where, none of them quite making it to here.

12z now inline with the ukmo and ecm. Shows the potential in terms of snowfall aswell. Sunday/monday could potentially be as good as the event weve just had.

Has been very cold here today, maximum 0.1c and a force 4 NE wind, quite happy with the snow around here today, 3cm over my garden, more than 6cm over the fields at the back, where these pics were taken late this morning and early this afternoon.

Currently –1.3c, falling rapidly.

GFS shows the snow potential for Sunday and Monday now but makes out the Precip to be very light. :drinks:

Snow streamer shown on NAE for our area Fri morning

post-9179-12627940522852_thumb.gif

Nice chart especially for S Lincs and N Cambs. Interesting to see if it materalises. I did say in my attempt at a forecast earlier that we cannot rule out these showers penetrating far enough inland to affect us at times.

To be honest though I do not hold the NAE in as high a regard as I do the NMM. So it'll be interesting to see what that shows later this evening.

GFS 12Z summary:

- Little/no snow until Friday evening

- Chance of snow on the weekend, particularly on Sunday

I was a bit confused that the GFS was saying the precip may not be snow for the east though? We're predicted a maxima of -2 for Saturday... :drinks:
