One of the forecasters down here said it was like the 80's.

I can't remember them all that well, being only 8 by the end of the 80's

Really? Thats insane, surely it must be really sheltered places, I mean the SST must be around 10C still down south?

Back now from my epic 15 miles trek up over the Cotswolds!

Had a wonderful time - loads of pictures - will upload later + perhaps give a better account.

Snow depths.

Cheltenham town: 13cm

Leckhampton Hill + generally over the hills: 18-20cm

Highest parts of the Cotswolds: 40cm in places

Combine that with strong winds and you get drifting; some drifts were waist deep.

I have a video of me walking through a particularly deep area of snow - the deepest I came across - the road was covered with snow up to my knees for quite a long stretch so probably 40-50cm deep. Certainly made the walking difficult and it definitely took a lot longer to walk 15 miles in the snow than it would have done in other weather!

Beautiful up there though - a really ethereal light when the cloud cleared away, especially after the sun when down and the ambient light was illuminating the hills.

J.Bacon was well known back then..

and if you look at the history you will find its not as bad yet..

Though its slowly going in that direction..

In China they have had to dig a train out of 2metres ...thats snow

no let us with the cold weather yet

Nice pictures Schmac, the only time our town looks pretty is when its covered in snow! lol

Cheers rockhopper.

At 01:30 this morning, I was wondering whether we were actually going to get any snow at all! Had a look out the window at 05:30 and there was a slight covering, so was really surprised at the amount we had when I got up at 07:00!! It must've hammered it down! :girl_devil:

Here's hoping that the South West can get another pasting on Sunday (although that's a long way off - in snow-forecasting terms!).

I'm sure you'll get some snow soon... possibly.

That said, you do get lovely weather in the summer... as opposed to our rain here

Press the precip button on the radar screen and hey presto look at all that lovely snow in pink, unlike the rainfall which shows in yellow, red etc this is more of a prediction that what your getting SHOULD be falling as snow, sleet or rain based on all the other factors e.g temperatures etc etc but in times like this is pretty deadly accurate so sit back and enjoy!!!rolleyes.gif

It really started to get heavy at about 3am, we had an inch in 30 mins! and was still going when I crawled to bed.

Yeah, I saw the advisories about sunday into monday, could be another good amount! :wallbash:
