There is a slight thaw in the sunshine where I am. Temp has risen to + 1.5 C :):)

We just had a short hail/graupel shower there. Snow is visibly melting on top of my bins. It probably won't rise much more though and will go down again somewhat after dark.

I expect some snow for Sun night and Monday (maybe sleety snow) but beyond that (Tuesday, for example) I see any snow being very marginal, especially at lower levels anywhere near south and east coasts, where sleet or even rain is a real possibility. :)

There has just been some rather large hailstones, all the showers have been of hail here. There has been light snow falling from clear skies between the showers though!

The temp is currently +0.8C, which is the coldest temp I have recorded with an east wind since the easterlies of the mid-90s, or longer!

The wind has become quite gusty.

Light snow on / off all morning and then nothing!

Minimum last night was -10.2c. Baltic!

Bit of a thaw kicked in this afternoon which has led to trecherous conditions now!

Was driving through Ballyclare earlier and i'm certain the gritters have not been near it! Everywhere is like a bottle!

Currently -3.9c

Radar looks productive for the East coast of Ireland from about Newcastle South!

Good luck folks!

The dreaded "gap" in the shower activity, downwind of the Isle of Man, is affecting south Louth, coastal Meath, and now the extreme north of Co. Dublin. No more shower activity for me tonight, unless the winds go a little more Easterly.wallbash.gif

What little snow we've had is trying to thaw.

We've had a 1cm covering at best, mostly of hail.

Currently 1.6C.

Ah, that's unlucky. Where I am there is no thaw tonight; it's -1C I'm very happy to say!

It's been very showery this evening with another 3 - 4 cms added to the already lying snow!!! :D

OK,

Regular snow showers her in Dublin this evening.

This just gets better and better before the main event tomorrow.

I cannot overstate how good this snow event is for us here in Dublin,

It surpasses 2009, 2001,1982 and even 1987.

It will be a long time before this event is surpassed.

Apart from a couple of slightly less cold days 25th/26th Dec it has been so wintry for 4 weeks now.

Coming down in heaps at the moment.

Hey guys! Delighted for you to be getting it big time over the next few days!

Don't expect to be getting much up here but then the shoe has often been on the other foot!

I hope you get all and more than what you expect and that you safely enjoy it!

P.S Warrenpoint looks to have got a fair oul blatter based on the radar!

Here in far north county Dublin, it has been a non-event for snow.

In 1982 there were several feet of snow, is it really that good in Dublin?

Hi DaBrigg,

No, nothing will beat the actual snowfall 7th Jan 1982. We had 36 hours of continuous snow leaving several feet of snowdrift.

However the cold spell only lasted 7 days and that was it,

This time round the cold spell has lasted 4 weeks with plenty of snow, meaning it is more like 1962/1963 and we dont know what more is to come.

Perhaps the north Atlantic drift has stopped, as per my signature

Agreed Matty,

Continuous heavy snow showers with more cms lying .

9" drift (measured).

This is a marvelous winter spell.

I took a run up Two Rock Mountain, in South Dublin yesterday. There was 2-3ft of snow on top. That was a new experience for me, so thats some compensation for the lack of snow at home. However, its always better to get it IMBY!

Normally I wouldnt be optimistic for the snow chances over the coming days, but the BBC seems to be upgrading the chances for widespread snow. The air must be still very cold close to the surface, in spite of less cold air coming in aloft.

The temp has fallen here. Its now +1.4C

Have to say that this is the best cold spell that i have ever witnessed. Have about 2/3 cms of powder snow on the ground and we now have 21 days with lying snow. Really is spectacular!! Looking forward to seeing what monday brings as the snow moves north. Think its just a case of now casting with regards to the distribution and amount of snow we see. No real sign of milder conditions at the moment. This picture really sums up this cold spell for me as i have never in my life time seen such a sight. The River Foyle in Derry is nearly frozen solid and when i was going to work yesterday there were seals out on top of the ice, its the first time the Foyl River has froze in 50 years. What a sight! Heres a short video of Derry today where snow fell lightly for 3 hours and gave a further covering! Enjoy.
