Drift Ice On The Tidal River Forth At Kincardine, Fife

Drift ice on the tidal River Forth at Kincardine, Kingdom of Fife.

Crossed the old Kincardine Bridge and down a dirt (snow) tracked road which I never knew existed. Ended up face to face with the eerily looking mudflats with ice drift in the background. Ice was flowing downstream into Firth of Forth - if it made it.

Nice pics Mondy!

Haven't been down to the Forth for a couple of days but I doubt if the ice flow would make to Kirkcaldy. Although cold there was no ice in the rockpools and the sand above the tideline was still soft. This was before the big freeze on Thursday night though - got down to -12C in the back garden :)

Yeah, the new bridge over the Forth has mini-icebergs at its base! - Unfortunately there is nowhere to park (to view from the new bridge) to get a real good shot of the swirling ice. The mudflats appear frozen too, but I won't dip my toe in to test, just incase

Very sensible Mr Mondy.

Round here there are eeejits going out on thin ice with no idea of the dangers, claiming that anyone who warns them against standing on 1/2 inch ice, 30 yards out on a pond is being stupid. Ho hum.

The Grand Union/Regent's canal is almost completely frozen over, except in one bit in Paddington Basin (wonders whether the supposedly eco-friendly building at that exact point is actually putting out enough heat to keep the canal defrosted), and swans are having to be chipped out of ice in various canals/Thames tributories.

Bah, humbug

Just back from walking the dog at Kirkcaldy. Partial thaw on at the moment and a stiff easterly to boot. Some bigish waves about so any ice wouldn't stand a chance.

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall.
