It looks to me as though there will be some changes next week with more of a North Westerly then maybe Northerly influence later in the week. ECM showing this tonight and UKMO was getting there at T144. The GFS has been hinting at this for days but the positioning of HP on its 12z was always in the worst possible position.

I know that it goes out longer but its strange how often the GFS picks a new trend then drops it, plays about with things for a couple of days then comes back with similar charts at a later date.

2.5 here and rain begining to pick up, and I'm sure the odd sleety flake in there as well, so eyes peeled Mondy your snow may yet arrive!!!

As a side note, we may not be famed for our healthy diet, but at least it's classed as the best!!! :aggressive:

Nae chance here tonight, will definitely be rain i'm sure.

Pretty raw out there mind you, biting wind.

Into further outlook and looks like the high will sink eventually but the positioning is not looking too good. will keep us cold (ish) but even the models are still unsure how this one will pan out.

Sunday (LS mentioned) and also monday maybe some snow flurries in an east wind, will wait till tmrw and see whats showing i think.

If theres nae much snaw then thinking of warmer weather and wondering if i'll get the BBQ out again this year? (last year was a washout) Roll on spring! lol!! Thats whit happens when ye start picking oot yet seed tatties for the garden!! start hanckering for some wrm weather to get outside again

Yep, looks like it will be liquid snow for most tonight.

I had a wee hope, but T is up a little bit here and traffic cams suggest only the higher areas of the highlands seeing the solid variety so far.

Just rain here, but can't expect much more with uppers just -1! By tomorrow morning even the highlands will see only a wintry mix! Off to look at the model discussion and the ECM to see if the excellent UKMO was followed by another dismal ECM 12Z.

edit: decent first chart http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Recm721.gif

not too bad second, though most likely dry and very cold with such a slack flow with the high nearby http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Recm961.gif

http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Recm1201.gif Not sure where it's going from here

http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Recm1441.gif About as good as could be expected!

http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Recm1681.gif Close but no cigar I'm afraid, with the Atlantic High stopping the lows tracking south

http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Recm1921.gif Almost recovering into FI, with the high sinking

http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Recm2161.gif Nice northerly flow now. Just need height rises to the northwest

http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Recm2401.gif Heights beginning to build over Greenland.

Now of course, those of us in central areas know that 'northerlies don't deliver.' Well perhaps not for snow, but they do at least get cold uppers over us, and, given some blocking, can give rise to reloads from the northeast and east, not to mention that with a northwesterly or northeasterly flow regionally snow showers can move quite far south (23rd December was brought by a northeasterly, though with a more organised trough moving south with the low). Also, if the low is shifted a bit further west (though in recent years the models have tended to shift northerlies further east as time goes on), we could end up with it tracking down the North Sea, bringing potential for more widespread frontal snow and not just isolated convective showers. Let's not forget polar lows either!

Hi LS,

Moderate Sleet falling here at the moment, some bigger white flakes but all a bit wet looking and feeling a bit raw cold.gif

Really wild night now wind roaring round the house and driving rain battering the windows every so often, still 2c so anywhere a bit higher up must have blizzards.

http://91.121.94.83/modeles/gem/run/gem-0-192.png What a chart!

Not too bad ECM, though the northerly looks more of the toppler variety unless the high can ridge into Greenland http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Recm1921.gif

UKMO has the high pushing a bit further northwest as well http://www.meteociel.fr/ukmo/run/UW144-21.GIF?22-06

GFS just has us stuck under the high http://91.121.94.83/modeles/gfs/run/gfs-0-54.png?0

Some snow possible for non-coastal eastern areas on Sunday?? Charts/FAX certainly seem to think so...

FAX chart for Saturday midnight:

FAX chart for Sunday 12pm:

post-2844-12641702848228_thumb.png

GFS also sniffs this out, Sunday 6am:

post-2844-12641703029628_thumb.png

NMM seems to bring this in more quickly (by Sat afternoon), rain at first on this model but perhaps turning to snow later?

The afternoon/evening runs today are going to be of interest; tonight's NMM in particular.

Some fun at last!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep, but still too marginal for my liking at the moment. I just feel we need a bit more of an upgrade for it to fall as snow east of about Falkirk, even away from the coast.

I'm fogged in tonight!! Very reminiscent of December :)

I'm not sure what's going to happen over the weekend, latest GFS doesn't look so promising. At least it's something to look at that's not 7C and rain.

Lol, I've only had that twice so far this year! The GFS is still not really buying a decent northerly, though the GEM and ECM are, with the UKMO looking fairly promising at 144 hours. It all depends whether the usual unfortunate eastwards correction of a northerly kicks in or whether, like the last one, the models will gradually push it further westwards. It also depends on whether the high can ridge to Greenland or not.

Loving the UFO comment!! The old Bonnybridge Triangle! I can remember when we used to go visiting to my wee Gran and my Papa in Bo'ness and I used to get excited when we went close by Bonnybridge because I thought there would be UFOs. Never saw anything though :(

4C here which makes it some of the warmest fog of the winter :cold:

When you see the buckfast clan down by the cross, you sort of get the feeling that they see anything and everything.

Forth Clyde canal through to Allendale is still frozen over, stop on way home and a good inch of ice still there.

Very thick fog here also, visibility must be about 20m at most?

Still a lot of snow patches near the mate on the commute, especially around livingston. Not surprising really considering they must have had well over a foot of snow at one point!

There is still the odd lump of ice here too, especially down the cycle track where the ice walls were two weeks ago.

Fog here is very dense too, giving me a run for my money :cold:
