A day of contrasts. The morning and lunchtime period being dull with average temps, however, it quickly turned brighter in the afternoon with a lovely clear dusk as the cold polar air filtered in. It is now sub freezing with widespread frost, really have enjoyed watching the cold air move through the area this afternoon on the weather maps.

Today is candlemas - there is a famous weather folklore i.e. if candelmas day be cold and bright winter will take another bite if it be cloudy with rain winter won't come again or something along these lines. Not sure where to pitch today, the first half being the latter and the second half the former.. which would suggest the rest of the winter will be rather mixed, quite apt going off the charts today, but to be honest folklore is just folklore..

We're definitely stuck on the mild and murky side of the front now. After a cold evening with an air frost it clouded over in the early hours and the temperature had already reached 5 deg C by 8.00 this morning. Cloudy all day with rain, mostly light but occasionally moderate. The rain eased late afternoon. Current conditions: cloudy, 6.2 deg C, wind moderate SW. Today's maximum 8.5, last night's minimum -0.3.

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall.
