Ay up, this is an unexpected position for it to be in! Could get something out of this. Temperature and dew points both favourable here (0.2/-0.7) - bring it on!

Been raining here for about 30 minutes. In the last few minutes it has turned to sleet but very miserable and certainly not looking like a snowevent here despite quite heavy precipitation.

Aye, turned to sleet here now as well. Question is, will it progress to snow before it dies out?

Yes, tomorrow has all manner of potential despite continued uncertainties - UKMO about to upgrade existing advisories to early warnings (later this morning). I'll keep you updated on the blog - see initial entry on tomorrow's prospects added a short while ago.

looks like it will be here in 30mins. Looks like some heavy rain based on everyones updates, shame as im in perfect place for some fairly heavy precip for quite some time. Have to hope for better luck tommorow. I think 100m asl wont be enough for most people. 200m+ and people should be ok

Yep quiet intense precip progged.

Personally I would prefer the insurance of the LP to be tracking slightly further E. Remember the colder air is on the W flank of the LP.

My location is right on the edge. I feel those further W than me are less marginal.

Thanks for that Ian, even though my area isn't your forecasting region it still fills me with hope!

Back to now though, temperature not rising at all here and the precipitation is marching closer - could get quite interesting.

The place i would have thought to get the hardest hit though will be that which finds itself just inside the snow zone, as they would surely be most likely to recieve heavier and more prolonged snowfall. The main concern for me is it being to far south.

Thats really good news keep us informed. Whats the height around stratford? roughly 100ms here

Latest NAE chart for tomorrow.

http://expert.weatheronline.co.uk/daten/proficharts/en/nae/2010/02/17/basis06/ukuk/prty/10021900_1706.gif

As you can see the snow is on the N/W flank of the LP. At the moment precip amounts look to be between 15-20mm. Now you have to take into account the snow ratio so I would suggest around 10cm of snowfall possible, possibly slightly more in some higher areas.

Leicestershire seems in prime position..

Sorry for butting in your thread TEITS :)

1mm of rain = 1cm of snow

15-20mm of rain = 15-20cm of snow. :p

Looks similar to the UKMO solution posted on Ian's blog.

Game on? We're on the very eastern extent of the rain to snow line though.

Yes but you need to take into account the snow ratio. What thia basically means is the colder the upper temps the higher the ratio. For example if we have -15C upper temps then 20mm of rainfall will give greater snowfalls compared to conditions tomorrow.

Snow moves E tomorrow as the LP tracks NE.
