A cold and very disturbed day with very heavy showery rain and almost an inch in the gauge! There was sleet first thing and this evening wih the current temperature1.2c after a max of 5.7c.

Thick freezing fog all morning' lifting into low cloud during the early afternoon and the temp' creeping just above 0c.

A few flakes of snow or pellets of soft hail during the morning and early afternoon but then continuous light snow from 1750 onward.

The rime on the trees lasted the whole day above 340m even though the snow cover had largely thawed on the ground even up to 360m, a classic example of unfrozen ground thawing a thin snow cover from beneath even though the air temp' remained below 0c.
