    Yesterday:

A few hours of light to moderate wet snow overnight has produced a 95% cover of a mean depth of 4.1cm.

A cloudy and misty start with light snow. A clearance arrived around 08:00GMT, but this was to late to allow an air frost to form, though the temperature did fall low enough for a ground frost, low 2.5c on the snow, with 0.2c in the screen. At observation, bright with sunny spells developing. Snow thawing. The day saw sunny spells and the odd light snow shower, the lying snow thawed steadily through the day as the temperature climbed to 3.4c, so only patchy thin cover survived the day. Maximum wind gust, 18mph, WSW. The evening saw a short moderate snow shower, adding another dusting.

Woke up this morning to find the 4th day of ground frost in a row. Even the little bit of precipitation last night has left sparkles on the pavement. Currently -1, temperatures got down pretty low here last night! Around the -6 area. :)

Apart from a light shower of soft hail very early this morning it's been a dry day with sunny periods. The morning began rather cloudy but the cu and stcu largely dispersed by about 10.30 and for the rest of the day the cloud cover ranged from 2-5 oktas.

A huge difference in the amount of snow cover on land with an aspect between south and west ( 5-10% cover ) and that with an aspect between NW and E through N where the snow cover is 90-100%.

Another sunny day today with plenty of sunshine. Temperatures rised to around 6C so not bad at all. Early this morning was frosty and we just missed that snow that hit South West England.

Tonight it's another dry and frosty one with only a few clouds ahead of some wintry weather set to push northwards later this evening.

Real alpine day here after a -7c start, temperature rose to a maximum of 0c with sunshine, blue skies and no wind. It was warm in the sun this afternoon but the covering of snow we have retained its sparkle all day . Hills round the Firth are completely white with no bare patches at all and stand out clearly against the blue sky. Some scattered snow showers round the coast to the north but they never came onshore. Ground will be drying out nicely under the frozen top few inches ready for spring sowing. Lwer humidities are drying up the roads as well, so better to drive on.
