Not a snow report but just had our first rumble of thunder/lightning for 2010 here in cumbernauld. Notice a flash then a small rumble. Unexpected but good all the same. (Raining BTW)

Wondered what the flash was but heard nothing over the incessant tipping it down freezing rain. :wallbash:

Temp dropped nearly a degree in last hour though, so you never know. Now 2.3C

Starting to turn more sleety, and think we have had our second lightning strike of the night? Can you confirm NUT. If so we can then add Thunder Sleet to our Vocab.

BBC Radio 5 Live just gave a UK wide "traffic report". Not ONE area of Scotland was mentioned, even though we ALL know some serious snow has fallen on main routes, and the BBC Scotland website has the weather as its main headline. Limp-wristed jokers.

It's because of those silly shirts you Scots have produced saying "Anyone Anyone But England" :wallbash::(

I wonder if they take advice from the Met?

"A Met Office spokesman said: "The threat of snow decreases during Friday and through much the weekend, with drier conditions and widespread overnight frosts."

Neil Gillies, from Highland Council, said snow had been expected but it had arrived earlier than the forecast had indicated. "

Turning sleetier here, 2.8C and very heavy rain/sleet. It can't possibly lie though, the ground is absolutely soaking - I just wish that the angle of attack was the same as the one that brought massive flooding to southwest Scotland and Cumbria, because there would be much more chance of it being an all snow event.

LS. Any chance you can reduce (or delete) your sig? Think we all get the message now ;-)

Meanwhile, SEPA has some flood watches: http://apps.sepa.org...gs/default.aspx

Will do, need to update the snow totals anyway!

LS, just been watching the radar, and would you say that the front has now stalled just North of Sneckie and is on it's way back down?

Yep, it will end up sinking south of the Forth by tomorrow evening http://expert.weatheronline.co.uk/daten/proficharts/en/nae/2010/02/25/basis12/ukuk/prty/10022706_2512.gif

Hi LS,

Definately more snaw than rain here at the mo, quite a few big wet flakes falling and the wind is blowing pretty strong cold.gif

Temp back down to +2 Dec C

Strangely though, the moon is shining through so the cloud cover must be breaking up a bit cc_confused.gif

What's your take on things?

The BBC animation thingy is showing the snow sinking back southwards! Hopefully see a little bit of it tomorrow :p But yeah, absolutely chucking it down with rain. Two days of constant precipitation after around 10 days non-stop sunshine? I'd gladly take that in summer!

Cheers. Looking maybe a little better for a few flakes for yourself tomorrow?

Aye, pity the ground is so wet, could do with just a day for it to freeze up then some more.

I did see earlier while shooting the breeze with Catch that the UKMO has an easterly of sorts at 144?

Starting to turn more towards the white fluffy stuff. :p

The garden here is still frozen below a very soggy inch on top. Not much heat in there to melt new snow, if our ppn turns more wintry. Which it is not looking like doing for a day or so.

The meto has added a special box to mention the snow in Scotland.... shok.gif

http://www.metoffice...her_graphs.html

Pretty amazing sonwfall in some parts, some very big falls from the looks of it, 42cms at Avimore is pretty decent over a 36hrs period, well over 1cm an hour on average!

Saint, if the 5-6th Jan was good enough for the red warning, then this is as well, totals are pretty similar looking at the moment but this may top that one in a few places.

Looks like this band of showers will weaken but stall over us during the night, but tomorrow morning sees a heavy band heading back south. It will pivot and weaken by evening, and whether it hangs on in Fife is hard to say, but we have a better chance (for once!) than those of the same latitude further west. http://charts.netweather.tv/gfsimages/gfs.20100225/18/30/ukprec.png Cold easterly follows, whether it will be dry or not is too hard to call but I wouldn't bet against the odd snow shower http://charts.netweather.tv/gfsimages/gfs.20100225/18/54/h850t850eu.png

Uppers around -7/-8. More on tonight/tomorrow http://expert.weatheronline.co.uk/daten/proficharts/en/nae/2010/02/25/basis18/ukuk/prty/10022606_2518.gif

SS, I think you're going to take the lead on the snowfront again in the coming days, with this little corner of east Fife, Dundee and Edinburgh being the only places left without much of the white stuff. Oh no, forgetting about Stranraer!

I'm suprised the METO haven't put out one of those 'red' warnings for some parts of Scotland now!

Would that be a red card for those ABE shirts then Saint whistling.gif
