Beautiful but pretty cold morning-not a cloud in sight-the lightest of a breeze now and then and the temp is -3.7C having been down to -5.8C. That is the lowest since goodness knows when. ironic really the supposed start of meteorological spring and we get the lowest temperature of the past 12 months or more-in fact since 17 February 2008(-6.6C).

One of the warmest mornings for a while, 4C and cloudy. Still got snow cover although it is not 100% complete; more like 90% and melting fast now. 12th consecutive Met-O snow day.

I let my fire go out last night for the first time since November 19th. That was a mistake; got down to -4.9C and is currently -2.7C with crystal clear skies.

The 70th air frost since the autumn.

Very cold start rain bottle frozen again so from never seeing it happen I've now seem twice this year.

yesterdays temps much lower than predicted. So the 24 hour period averaged -0.4C which is very impressive.

Overnight low -5.6C coldest since 22nd December 2009

The grass min was -10.6C the coldest since 3rd Mar 2006

Brilliant sunshine shame I'm a carer as I would have been up on the moors catching the sunrise with the frost.

I wonder if we'll make 100 days without double figures?

yes, what another absolutely stunning day it is here.

Not a cloud in the sky-very little breeze in my back garden but very interesting bit of meteorology.

NW Extra shows the 850mb temperature overhead at 06z was between -5 and -6C, the dewpoint at that time was -7.5C. That is the 3rd joint lowest dewpoint since the cold weather began in mid December, only -8.7C on 12 December and -8.4C 8 January being lower with -7.5C also on 7 January.

By 1230 the dewpoint here was -4.7C the second lowest in that time scale with only 8 January with -5.9C.

I sat out with a coffee, with a fleece on, warm enough on my face but feeling distinctly chill around my legs. Walking round the garden was even more dramatic, literally 2 feet apart from sun to shade and the soil surface went from frozen-white patches to clear and softish.

Had this been mid December to mid January I suspect that parts of eastern England might have had a sub zero C day especially if it had been a snow covered surface. Ifs I know but the heat of the sun now compared to mid winter is really a huge factor in the chance of any prolonged cold-its rare that this can happen at this time of the year no matter how cold the air source is simply due to the sun's position and how much heat it throws out.

    for Paul

why it will not copy and enlarge for me-sometimes the link has the chart sometimes it says click on to show-that is when it will not do it?

almost always, initially, the chart, as per your sat view, shows, then goes to the supposed link which will not work?
