Some good pics there. Very impressive to see snow in the Mediterranean at this time of the year, although at the same time a little irritating that here we are experiencing rather boring weather.

Bev Lass,

Thanks for getting those pictures - I am at my place at Capestang 34310 right now and experienced this snowfall first hand. This is just in Herault but quite close to the border of Aude.

It started to snow, quite moderately last Sunday evening, though it did settle here for a long time. The following morning there were about 8 cms of white slushy stuff and through the day it turned to rain then back to snow.

On the Tuesday set out with the intention of shopping in Narbonne but got diverted off the main route because it had been blocked and ended up going through the Corbiere countryside. In this direction there were some lovely drifts and the snow was still being blown in a fairly strong tramontaine.

The scenes were really beautiful but like a mug I had not taken my camera, though some poorer photos exist on other blogs I submitted.

At Narbonne I was treated to the sight of snow being blown off the roof of Carrefour and one car in the car park must have had at least 20cms in its roof.

It has gradually warmed up now to a balmy +6C and a lot of the snow has now melted, pretty well all of it in Capestang. I was also surprised at how quickly the roads dried out. I did not see any evidence of the roads being salted and it appears that the local policy was to just shovel it out of the way and let the sun and the wind do the rest.

As a byline another house I am getting renovated down here has been equipped with pucker insulation, solar panels for heating the water, an air to air heat pump and a 12 kilowatt wood burning stove so if what Joe laminate floori says about the winters getting colder we will be as snug as a bug in a rug if a repeat episode occurs whilst I am down here. Much better than having the electricity trip out as it does in our current house when we overload the system.

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
