This has been a similar month in some respects to April 2007, which was also dominated by high pressure and became the driest April on local record going back to 1991, when only 9.0mm was recorded.

2007 will keep its crown though, as there has been 10.7mm so far this April.

Though the drought is now in to its 18th day here, just 0.1mm noted since the 6th.

The garden has had a decent water today from some hefty showers. Still managed to get an uninterupted cricket match though. Now back to the warmth and sunshine tomorrow.

A short spell of moderate rain this morning and a few showers late afternoon, which is the first rainfall in a few weeks.

3.1 mm in a heavy shower yesterday afternoon takes us to 17.4 mm for the month. This makes it the 3rd driest April and the 13th driest month in the last 34 years with 5 days to go.

Some beefy showers here yesterday morning and afternoon, and a bit of spitting first thing today. Felt quite unusual after going so long without it!

We missed out on the heavy showers yesterday, only had a few light showers which barely covered the ground before evaporating and leaving that smell that happens when its not rained in ages.

Ground is extremely dry at the moment and no sign of any major rain either other than some drizzly stuff at the end of the week.

Only 7.2 mm required to take this April out of the top 20 driest months here in the last 34 years. An easily achievable amount by the look of the charts for today and tomorrow.

A massive 21.4 mm here so far this month however this well above the driest April ever which was 1.8 mm in 1957.

By rough calculations via WeatherOnline the sun total is about 145hrs so far in April. It has been sunny this morning until about half an hour ago. I think we've got 197hrs from 1962 as the target from the local Met-O records which go back to 1959; 2007 was very sunny but not as sunny (at 188hrs).

Given that we've got 7 full days of the month left after today and we can rack up 13+ hours a day sunshine at this time year then I see no reason why the record can't be beaten. I also see no reason why it can't be cloudy for the next week and then it's just an above average month.

So much for a very very sunny April :)

It was cloudy for most of the seven days although bits and bobs of sun should ensure a well above average month for sunshine.
