Good grief, what a fiasco, what do they say? It's not volcanoes, earthquakes that are the disaster, they have happened since the year dot, it is only a disaster when humans decide they know better/get in the way. Way some are going today they will be the disaster. I truly do hope any airline that does not heed the warnings, etc, and who do get trouble with a plane have the book thrown at them and their license to fly taken away for good.

I notice that it is only a select few airlines making the noise, most are being patient and understanding.

Silly thought, but it could it be doing that because of the Ash affecting it's systems/computers/tracking devices etc....?

But then how are other people seeing it.. rather annoying! opps went to wrong one went to london instead of dublin got to dublin but now i the aircraft disappeared lol.

According to Accuweather, the cloud is only at a height of around 10,000 ft, it does not reach the previous 30,000 ft. True? And how does this affect the possibility of flights?

Not that I'm aware of at the moment, the plume isn't being ejected quite so high anymore, though I'm not sure its quite as low as 10K either....

That being said there is a window still for Central Europe IMO, if these companies really are so money greedy (because lets be honest, they don't *actually* care about stranded people, they just care about thier wallets, as most companies do) then I feel they probably have a window to go and probably only get minimal ash damage, after 18z tommorow any flight in Europe will once again IMO become very dangerous given a direct NW flow from Iceland itself...

Businesses employ people who have lives to live and taxes to pay to the government. Money does matter. Dust is expensive. The no fly zone will have an effect on the supermarket shelves, medicines and high-tech goods delivered to this country. Long enough, it will cause social disruption. A blanket ban based on fear of what "might happen" has severe costs and these should be weighed up against the costs of being slightly more flexible allowing planes to take advantage of lower dust levels, which can be assessed by satellites, weather balloons, military planes.

Finish Military Jet flew into the Ash, damaged it's engines and caused severe damage to them, while we're on the point of Military planes.

The GFS 12z jet forecast for this week does not look promising for air travel over Europe. The entrance jet sits directly over Iceland for several days and flows SE over the UK and into mainland Europe.

Finally into the weekend, the block over the North Atlantic gives way and SW'erlys come cascading into Europe.

The question is, will the airlines be patient enough to wait until then? I doubt it.

Wow that's a significant jump and seems maybe a tiny bit higher at ESK than HVO so it appears that what ever is brewing is going to happen at the current erupting volcano and not Katla.

Yes, I noticed that too, is the kettle about to boil do you reckon?

No ash deposits at all down here on the coast, I have left a clean white garden chair out to check, OH how sad is that?

Yeah, but we do have to learn lessons from this event, though. I still feel enormously priveleged on the occasions when I get to fly anywhere, but there are people who use them like buses. There are people who commute to work in England from Northern France, for example, and how come it is more economic for an international company to fly its sales staff around the world rather than employ locals? After all, there is no hint of any green solutions imminent for planes and the US military last week warned about oil shortages as soon as 2015: http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2010/apr/11/peak-oil-production-supply

Time to get in the queue for an allotment....

KLM say they would not fly in that area - Iceland-Russia. They want to fly in the pockets where the dust is negligible.

ESK is the one nearer Katla, isn't it?

Also should be noted the Finnish Jet plane flew through the core of the ash plume, thus far we've not seen the ash core so to speak outside of Scandinavia as the jet stream last week too kit into Scandinavia and also the weak upper ridge has somewhat protected Europe.

IF they are to fly, I hope to dear god they do stop by say 0z Tuesday, because the main core of the plume will get dragged SE at 70-90kts and there will be little time for the ash to disperse, which seems to be what has happened in central Europe today to some degree...IF not then many planes will suffer that military jet's issue as well.

AFT, we are going to have similar ash profiles as that area throughout all of C.Europe plus the UK once the jet streak tears SE through Europe, if they are gonig to fly, best do it now because its a short window of probably just 12-18hrs before it starts to close.
