The HVO (Lagu Hvolar) seismometer which is the closest to Katla is peaking, yet the others aren't increasing as much. Does look to my untrained eye it might be Katla that is causing this general seismic increase in the area, hope to god its not, but if its got to blow, best to do it now when we already have the mess from Eyjafjallajokull.

Seismic charts are available here -

http://hraun.vedur.i...web/tremor.html

HVO is the one next too Katla, ESK the one next to Eyjafjallajokull. Both are almost the south most stations.

http://hraun.vedur.i...todvaplott.html is a page for the 5 seismometers around that area.

Esk has stopped responding some time ago so probably damaged.

I've got a feeling that Europe may go it's own way and re-open it's airports tomorrow will be the big test. A meeting of ministers soon and you can bet pressure political and business will be applied to get the ban lifted.

I quite agree, no amount of wishing is going to alter what happens so I for one am enjoying the front seat view the webcams give.

Well until the weather closed in!:)

Still tomorrows forecast for Reykavik (sorry if that is spelt wong.) is for sunny weather. At least, that was what they said yesterday!

Reykjavik is a long way from the volcano; it's like London to Newcastle distance roughly.

How long was it in the air for?

Really there isn't any point in risking it, even one plane going down would be an uneeded risk and for what, some money for the companies?

Looks like this eruptions going to make it to VEI4 and if Katla blows then the two combined probably would be enough to eject at least the same ash as a 5...which St.Helens was.

I dont know how long the jet was in the air for..

Seen it twice on the news channel with pictures showing damage to engine...

was a fighter jet from Finland,Pilot said he hadnt noticed any problem until later his jet was examined..

looked like an abrasive material rubbed again the inside of the engines

Jeez why do these guys think they more then the pros...seriously!

Anyway thats going to be a mute point very soon, the direct ash plume is about to dig back southwards as the upper winds change, right now over Europe they flipped WSW/SW which probably has cleared it out somewhat but look for Tuesday:

If planes are allowed to fly now, a disaster WILL happen, thats a certainty IMO as the upper winds veer round and drag the dust plume back in again.

They will have to rescale the HVO seismic trace soon - it went off scale briefly. http://hraun.vedur.is/ja/Katla2009/stodvaplott.html#googtrans/auto/en

Seems with ESK that the red (0.5 - 1 hz)hit 150 and green 1 - 2 hz was prior to each eruption that occured, the fact Ketla is now heading that way appears to show that magna is building up in that area and must therefore show increased risk of eruption.

For anyone looking for any links floodwarn have added a volcano page to cover this event.

Pity we don't know what ESK is doing now. That way we would know whether it's shaking the other sensors or not.

Sad too see comments like "Clear Blue Skies" Don't they know that you can't always see the ash ???

Proof attached below and on the old thread from Friday night!

And from my own photobucket account from Friday night - LOL

They used a few sources, but this forum has been one of the best for locating the information. Users here have done alot of searching and some members knowledge is outstanding. Thats why i use the netweather forums

Dramatically quiet on the downs over Eastbourne this afternoon with most people in their gardens having BBQ's I guess and only a few piston engined, private aircraft flying it was very pleasant! I have tried to find info on the web concerning restrictions on small, private light aircraft flying and there seems to be no legal enforcement or rules in force from the CAA, to stop them currently.

Breaking news in Spain:

Spanish Airports and Air Navigation (Aena) has lifted all restrictions since 14:30 GMT at airports that were closed because the situation forecasts indicate that the volcanic ash cloud plume away from the peninsula.

In particular, the Aena airports remained closed for security reasons, were those of Barcelona, Gerona, Reus, Sabadell, Asturias, Santander, Bilbao, San Sebastian, Vitoria, Pamplona, Logroño, two of Palma de Mallorca, Menorca, Zaragoza and Huesca.

From 19:30 GMT today the airport in Lleida, which is not in the Aena network, although possibly reopen in light of the new forecast. This decision was taken in coordination with Eurocontrol and in view of predictions of the Volcano Ash Warning Center in London, which has changed the map of the location of the ash cloud, which in the next hours will be further north initially expected.

Most of the work on the site was in between fighting fires, rescues etc and done late at night when sleep was required as floodwarn is free and done in my spare time only, being a manager with fire and rescue not alot of time.

But huge thanks to the guys and gals on here

I stopped right click on all pages as some of companies supplying info insisted on it

The Germans should get in touch with their counterparts at Cologne University.

This from the Uni - for tomorrow: http://db.eurad.uni-...ur_1h_movd1.gif

Yep and thats why this whole debate is going to be pointless within the next 12-18hrs, even if they could get in the air now, they will soon have to be grounded again anyway!

Also PIT, that just shows the ignorence of some, seems to be an attitude that if you can't see it, its not there.

If they wanna fly, then let the CEOs and executives of the companies be the first ones to fly then IMO!

Latest update http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/aviation/vaac/data/VAG_1271591498.png

Looking at the ash maps it's quiet possible KLM didn't find anything today. They may do soon though.

Mondy's doing a great job-I have a question,I wonder if the authorities are checking to see if air pollution has dropped in the last 4 days and if so by how much,we probably will not be told but I have never seen any figures as to how much planes contribute.

i think if they open airports then only the foolish will fly.

i think people would be very frightened to fly although some will out of desperation.

it will be tragic to risk peoples lives for money but greed brings danger.
