An interesting read personally so I thought I'd share

"Livermore, California (CNN) -- Scientists at a government lab here are trying to use the world's largest laser -- it's the size of three football fields -- to set off a nuclear reaction so intense that it will make a star bloom on the surface of the Earth."

Sounds unlikely, but somebody somewhere has to crack the fusion quest, and it could be them!

Fusion energy would be a massive milestone for a practical green economy and truly viable nuclear energy due to the waste from Fusion being much less and far shorter lived in terms of radioactivity. Hopefully these guys will crack it, but i don't know if the method they're using would be one that would be practical for commercial fusion energy. Most efforts in that area have focused on magnetic confinement.
