Opening this thread earlier than normal to see if we can generate any more predictions than last month which was actually quite low, or maybe just compared to winter.

The warmest August on record was 19.2C in 1995 which was 3C above average.

The 1971-2000 average August CET is 16.2C.

My prediction is 16.7C, 0.5C above average, though i will most likely revise this down a little.

Quite far out, but my reckoning is that it will be a fairly cool month with maybe one or two brief occasions of HP ridging into the UK, LP taking more of a hold than HP, so at times a NW/SE split. So my very early prediction is 16.4C, will revise it in a week's time or so

I'll go for 18C - I'm going with that slippery floor fellow across the pond who says that the summer will be warmer than average plus the fact that the Azores high is currently making approaches in this direction, though I think the Daily Mail has overdone it!

My LRF pointed towards August being the worst month of the summer with generally quite unsetteled conditions prevailing. However, given the heat so far this summer, which has surprised me, and the models appear to be picking up on an early August heatwave, I think I'll wait a while longer before making my guess. :)

I'll reserve my projection until early next week. Would be superb if we saw an August like 1995 days and days of abundant sunshine and temps in the mid to high 20's definately the best summer month for those who like heat dryness and sunshine here in the Lake District.

However, really can't see much than a slightly better than average August at best - looks like the atlantic is back with avengence and I can't see it quitening down if anything it will probably pep up some more.

    19.2 with sweltering heat.

That would make it joint warmest on record with August 1995. I will wait until late next week before I give my guess.

As I see it, indiciations are for some strong heat potential at the start of the month followed by an early decent into autumn from mid month onwards. My early estimate is 16.9°C.

I'll go with an early punt of 17.0C. Most likely going to change my guess before the end of July though.
