An interesting local topographical effect in SW Wales today. Only a few heavy showers here, but along the south Ceredigion/ NE Pembrokeshire coast of southern Cardigan Bay, there has been a constant stream of heavy downpours all afternoon. These have been formed by the uplift of the SW flow crossing the Preseli hills. According to the Netweather radar accumulator, the coastal strip between about Newport and Aberaeron has had over 14mm since this morning, with a smaller stretch surrounding Cardigan over 22mm, and one spot close to Cardigan on 56mm! Just 2mm here since this morning. Could be an element of local convergence too as there has been a W/NW sea breeze around Cardigan Bay that has interacted with the general and upper S/SW flow.

This streamer is still ongoing.

OH MY GOODNESS, Huge Beast of a storm moving right past my house (out my window view) and definitely the best I've seen so far. Absolutely MASSIVE anvil, so high that its lost its white colour and is grey but still bubbly and full (rather than that dieing out crap). Thunder near constant, rumbles every few seconds. Oh please come overhead...this is the one.

Erm, I've just heard about 6 rumbles of thunder from the distance in the last 30 seconds and they all seem to be new rumbles. Whats a cookin?

Yep that's just to the east of me at the minute. Nearly constant rumbles of thunder. Quite amazing. Took a 5min vid there i'll upload in a bit.

Excellent mate, haven't seen a monster like this since Summer 2004 when we had the elevated storms.

I'm still not sure if its going to directly hit me, the anvil gets closer but looks like its just going to skite past me, wish it was nighttime, would have been an AWESOME light show.

damn right I am...lol....probably more rain in the past 2 hours than in over a month.......This heavy shower is very slow moving, I can just see the back edge of the anvil as the rain now eases...I haven't seen/heard lightning/thunder from this shower, but it certainly packs a punch with rainfall!

I caught the tail end, was just a standard average shower here,

Looks as if it may be slowly but surely heading towards me. Very difficult to tell, clouds seem to be moving in all directions. Very, very black towards the West of Belfast. How long do you think these will stick around for?

Looks like they are heading SW according to radar, some activity developing in the Irish Sea to our NE, interesting.

Edit: Devloping to our East and heading down towards Lower Ards peninsula, Downpatrick etc. Damn, so close.

Could be around most of the night.

Great stuff this. Saw some fantastic lighting towards Lisburn about 1/2 hour ago. Looks like I could catch something myself shortly. Very dark, rumbles of thunder.

I have some pictures of the Bangor storm forming, will try to upload later.

The one thats near now or the one we had mid afternoon?

This storm now is still nearby but can't hear the thunder anymore.

The inflow band runs from the North of the storm right out to the Donaghadee coast..some amazing structural images to be had....the streaks in the inflow band showing that this storm is very well kept and certainly hitting top maturity. Wish my cam would work.

Thunder reported from a friend who lives near Llangrannog on the Cardigan Bay coast, further downpours there too, must be flooding in the Cardigan area!

The met office are saying heavy thundery showers after midnight tonight here. I'm quite surprised about that because the showers usually die away towards the evening. What's different about tonight??

That would be the dark cloud that is heading northwards from Doncaster towards Hatfield and Thorne at the moment then.

Its got dark here in the last 25 minutes or so, even though about 3 or 4 miles to the west its clear as a bell.

Anyone North East of me can expect a small storm.

It just passed through here, moderate rain and thunder. Little or no lightning though.

Cloud went purple with white underneathe it. I didn't have my camera handy. :whistling:

I can back that one up for you too. Heard a distant rumble to the North about 2 minutes ago.
