After a dry and cloudy night, the morning has continued overcast, with only a few brighter patches. Dry and overcast conditions with brighter spells continued in to the early afternoon. The clouds became thinner and more broken by mid afternoon allowing sunny spells, feeling quite pleasant on the whole as the wind was very light throughout, top temperature, 19.6c.

Dissapointingly cloudy start to the day and with the weak atlantic front due to arrive this afternoon I can only see the skies getting more and more dark as the day wears on. Expecting some light rain drizzly stuff for the end of the afternoon - not a great prospect.

Shame because it is the Windermere Airshow this weekend and normally it is a cracking weekend weatherwise often delivering sunny warm weather in the past, last year we had a wonderful warm sunny saturday. Tomorrow looks equally dull and cloudy.. The weekends from now through to bank holiday are the most important in the holiday trade in the Lake District - this is when the weather makes and breaks how well the tourist trade is. Cloudy damp weekends are not what is needed. Still it is looking a much better weekend than the past three in terms of no hefty deluges.

The rain has arrived earlier than anticipated. We have had steady light rain for a couple of hours now and very low cloud shrouding the hills. Temps currently 16 degrees after reaching a high of just over 18 degrees at noon. Cumbria is definately recieving the short straw in terms of the rest of england and wales today, with a nice blue blob over the county not likely to move very fast whilst dissapating as it reaches the Pennines - its the curse of a moist south westerly airstream - today's synoptics in the height of the summer are what we fear in the Lake District they are guaranteed to deliver a miserable summers day.

A cold and clear start this morning with a min temp of 8.9C - making it the coldest in July since 2004. Today has quickly warmed up though, with a maximum temperature of 22.8C and some pleasant spells of sunshine.

Currently 18.9C with 63% humidity and a light breeze. The sunshine has gone a little hazy however.
