How was your July weather?

The Metoffice anomoly maps are up and its pretty much as expected.

Temperatures are average or above everywhere with a gradual increase in the positive anomoly as you move east. Parts of East Anglia were exceptionally warm.

Reasonable mean temperatures are misleading in that they mask the fact that milder than average minimum temps more than cancelled lower than average maxima -

Obviously, increased rainfall, dull skies and depressed daytime temperatures have a greater impact on one's perception than any number of reasonably mild nights especially with regards to summeriness.

Here in north Cheshire this summer doesn't appear any better than the last two washouts.

I think you are right- hence why, for example, I see Mr_Data's index for Manchester (which uses mean maximum temperature, sunshine and no. of rain days) as more representative than the Davis index (which uses mean temperature, sunshine and rainfall totals). July 2010 also provided a good illustration of the reasons for choosing no. of rain days rather than rainfall totals- quite often the perception of a poor month is fuelled more by the frequency of rain rather than the quantity, and in many areas of the country July 2010 had frequent rain in small amounts.

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall.
