Early on it's feeling hotter than yesterday however the clouds are building nicely...fingers crossed for beefy showers later.

    Tuesday 31st August 2010:

    A cold and clear night for August here, low 4.1c, with 1.6c on the grass, the coldest locally since 2003 (3.5c) at this station.

    However it was even colder in Rosliston, just 2 miles away, though unofficial at the moment, his minimum reading was 2.9c from his AWS, he will confirm his official reading later, but almost certainly a ground frost there. If confirmed this will make it the coldest August night (locally) since records began in 1990.

    Mist and patchy fog and ground frost cleared quickly after sunrise. At observation, warming up rapidly in bright sunshine.

    A mainly clear night after the clearance of Stcu during the evening. The wind was much lighter than the previous night and the resultant inversion meant the min' air temp' was actually higher than on the 30th.

    Temp' currently is 14.5c after a min' of 7.2c and a grass min' of 2.6c

    Rainfall in 24 hrs ending 0800 g.m.t, nil.

    For the second consecutive night, the lowest August temperature I've recorded since i started in 1998, with a minimum of 2.7º. Now a wonderful early autumn day (feels like it anyway) at 16.6º with long sunny spells.

    Rosliston station, 2 miles away, the minimum in the screen was 3.1c with –0.3c on the grass, so an early ground frost there, these readings make it the coldest August night (locally) since records began in 1991.

    Mist and patchy fog and ground frost cleared quickly after sunrise. At observation, warming up rapidly in bright sunshine. A warm and mainly sunny day followed with only scattered Cumulis humilis.

      It's been a wet March for much of the UK, with well above average rainfall, though the Northern & Western Isles have been drier than average.
