I doubt the Met Office will have a change of heart in all honesty, this will happen and i am assuming it will happen this month sometime, it will be a sad lost too see these forecasters being off our screens but we have too move on sadly.

Could you not send your email to the met, after all it's them that are taking them away?

I sent an e-mail to the Met Office as well. I got a copy and paste jobby back.

Nobody is listening on this one I'm afraid. If the BBC and the Met Office wish to shoot themselves in the feet then I suppose we better let them get on with it. Shame for Rob though who will be greatly missed.

I would like to express my dismay that the BBC are thinking of axing Rob McElwee. He is in my opinion one of the best weather presenters on the BBC. His forcasts are very clear and has a very friendly and warm style of presentation. He particulary brings a human touch to the forcast whether its a witty comment or just good sensible advice.....

He makes watching a weather forcast more interesting and i would urge the BBC to reconsider there decision. Without Rob's forcasts the weather will not be the same!!

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. It is nice to have someone who actually explains the weather rather than making it 'an idiot's guide'. Rob McElwee has a warm style and knows how to use humour. Many of the other forecasters are lightweight and dull.

Has this decision ever been implemented? Rob McElwee is currently on BBC News, from 19:25 to 22:00, and it seems to be his usual slot, together with Peter Gibbs and Philip Avery.

Rob McElwee's last shift is tonight folks - last forecast is at 10.52pm BBC One.

Rob has always tried to be slightly unconventional in his forecasting style, avoiding the temptation to dumb down and thereby acknowledging that at least some viewers understand a bit about the science. I don't know the reason for his demise but he will be missed. If the excellent Tomas Schafernaker and Phil Avery are also on the hit list then I'm afraid it really is the beginning of the end for BBC forecasts. We will be probably left with Dan Corbett who can't seem to manage the word temperature!

Rob you will be missed!

I would have actually ditched Darren Betts than Rob McElwee. I find Darren the anticyclonic gloom of the BBC weather presenters.
