Thought i would add my two cents. In Pembrokeshire the traditional roofing method is to grout the roof, that is basically rendering the roof with mortar. It originated because of the low quality of local slate and the difficulty getting a weather seal. It prevents the rain from getting blown up between the slates amd also stops them rattling.

Well unlike mondays storm, thursdays is looking quite a serious affair. I expect fairly widespread damage, many houses on our estate have visibly loose tiles from frost damage from the past harsh winter. NOW IS THE TIME TO CHECK YOUR ROOF. I fear by friday people in the roofing trade are going to earn mega bucks!

This is a good LIVE station for northern england wind watches.....

Went to see parents last night, and they had a couple of fence panels down.

My green house door was lying flat on the floor this morning. But that door would fall off in a light breeze, poor assembly on my part, but I did put it up on my own though.

I saw a billboard cloth hanging in trees at the side of the M6 in Birmingham this morning. Apparently, a friend also had a roof tile dislodged and ended up falling through his car windscreen.

Yes, the Boxing Day storm in 1998 was very severe (gusts of 93mph at Glasgow Airport), although there was another fairly severe storm on the 4th of January 1999 (gusts of 83mph at Glasgow Airport).

Nothing since then has touched this. The peak gust at Glasgow Airport since then is a mere 75mph.

I certainly remember the chill after the storm on the 26th, there are photos somewhere in my parents' house of many fallen trees thick with frost in the days after the storm.

110mph at Prestwick airport too, where some of the planes were blown over. It was a WILD night. Definetly the one I remember most, theres still damage around here from that storm.

Indeed, I spent 10 hours on my roof this summer re-pointing all my ridge tiles. I must have brought down about 5 bucket loads of old broken mortar that had broken and rolled down the roof..

i spent most of this morning puting new felt on the shed noticed lot of the sheds lost theirs last night looks bq and home base going to be busy with felt and fence panels this week end!!!
