Another jh teach in for newcomers

This tries to explain how the major troughs and ridges in the upper air you see on the 1000-500mb charts, the colours if you like, govern the type of weather we have, cold mild, settled, unsettled.

Thanks for a lovely clear bit of work, I understand it much better now, until I forget it again.....

I look forward to a piece on Rossby waves, as I was reading about them today and have ended up thoroughly confused!!
