Much the same as in MK here in Stortford. Could get used to this. Looks like Andrewsfield (our next meto station) was officially colder than -13 last night.

the freezing fog has disappered overnight to leave a calm cloudless start with temperature on -8.8C, the lowest this morning so far.

We may get the FOURTH consecutive Ice Day. If so its the first time for me since I worked south east of Nottingham during the 1962-63 winter.

So yet aother record likely for this 2 pronged cold spell.

An exceptionally cold day so far in Cleadon, the minimum last night was -9.3C and it's only up to -5.6C now, with some sunshine and patches of freezing fog. There is 8cm of powder snow on the ground following last evening's falls.

It won't be the fourth successive ice day here as the last two days reached 0.8C and 0.4C respectively, but it looks highly odds-on to be the fourth day with a sub 1C maximum and also beat the -1.3C of the 17th which was the lowest maximum since 29 Dec 1995.

Once again very nearly the whole of the UK had below zero minimum. In fact if you exclude the two islands that did not the whole of the UK recorded frost, yesterday it was just one=Scilly Isles, today the same again along with Jersey and Guernsey.

Enjoy this cold lovers you are in a fairly unique run of weather-I do not recall such countrywide cold for so long(including the start in late November with a 4-6 day milder period for some area) for many many years. I am not sure but it might well be back to 1962-63 for being so widespread and so long.

Perhaps a touch overdone but it is very rare-something for you to tell your grandchildren when the warming takes over again whenever that is!

Highest temperature today was -3.4C, but now it's plummeting and is already -9.5C. At the same time on my coldest recorded night (January 8th) it was -10.2C so could be pushing that record tonight.

Oh....I know where you are now....Blickingshire. Holiday near Stalham every year. I just thought you might be a bit rubbish at geography and really be in Aldeburgh.

Anyway, just went to stack some logs but despite having all the gear, could only bear half an hour. Currently -10.5C. VERY surprised to see Norfolk so cold, particularly relatively close to the coast. During my childhood in Suffolk, I can only remember it getting down to -10C once, and I was well inland at Lavenham.

By the way...I'm not suggesting for a minute you're exaggerating your readings, unlike certain members from certain places might have done in the past.

looking at your station, your record has just gone. Where do you think it will stop tonight?

I was surprised when I saw those temperatures as well, but my next door neighbour has a Min Max thermometer in his garden, so we've checked against each other. he was just as surprised, the lowest I'd seen it before this year was back in the mid 80's where I think it got down to -11.

And yes, amazingly cold so close to the coast. Went to Cromer on Saturday and the was snow on the beach, only the 2nd time I've seen that.
