January has already had 65mm here (I daresay a lot more has fallen elsewhere) and there are several very wet spells coming

up before and during the weekend.

January = 65mm (so far)

Coventry Rainfall, 2011, courtesy of Dad:

January: 43.5mm (77%)

Mum and Dad today moved 10 miles down the road to the outskirts of Rugby, so putting an end to almost 30 years rainfall records from the Coventry site:

1982-2011 Walsgrave.pdf

They only have a very small garden area now, but as its a bungalow, it may still prove reasonably accurate for measuring the rain!

Mean annual rainfall very similar there to Coventry too.

At this moment, we've had 182.6mm of rain this year, which is almost exactly 25% of last year's total. It's not so much that this year is wet, but last year was so dry.

Since 4pm on Thursday we've received 148.2mm of rain (and sleet this evening), making the past 5 days the second wettest period I've recorded since moving to Great Asby. In rank order, the wettest 5 day periods have been:-

January 5th to 9th 2005 - 193mm

February 3rd to 7th 2011 - 148mm

November 17th to 21st 2009 - 145mm (just a small part of that month's staggering total of 421.8mm!)

January 30th to Feb 3rd 2004 - 122mm

August 8th to 12th 2004 - 116mm

January 10th to 14th 2009 - 107mm

Looking wet for the end of the week too!

Can't compete with those stat's OON but we have had the wettest first week in February since 1990.

53.0 mm in the first 7 days which represents 68% of the 30 year mean for the whole month.

Amazing TM, just 20 miles from your area as the crow flies, and only 2.4mm.

That's a big difference, Paul. You must have missed all the rain last Saturday, it did look as though you were on the very edge of it on the radar.

Just as big a difference going north, Buxton had almost 63 mm when we got 37.

Still only 39.4mm here in 2011. The 1971-2000 average up to this point in the year is around 68mm, so we're well under.

January - 45.1mm

February - 27mm

Another two below average winter months. Last above average month here was October. So a rather dry winter compared with the MetO ocal average.

I only have rainfall data for my garden back to 2008, but Jan is my driest and Feb my joint driest.

Only 85mm approx here to date so far with two slightly below/below average months. As usual, Central areas seem to be the driest. Even the East seems to have higher totals than here.

A dry March, saved from being extremely dry by the last few days rain.

January: 69.9mm

February: 39.9mm

March: 24.3mm

2011 so far: 128.1mm

Will April buckle the trend or be drier than average again?
