Only the second time in the past 30 years that any month out of the first five of a year has failed to reach 50mm (and roughly average). The only other year being 2005 which was on 181mm by the end of May in Coventry.

With just 52.8mm of rain falling during spring 2011, just 34% of the expected seasonal rainfall in Coventry, this has been our driest spring since 1956 (46.5mm). Only spring 1938 and 1956 have been drier than spring 2011 since before 1870 Bablake WS

It's been very dry here, though we're not quite in drought conditions. Rain in May (yet slightly below average) helped, but nearly half of that fell during the plume event.

The first six months of 2011 have been the driest first half of the year in Coventry since 1976; with monthly rainfall records dating back to 1870, we find that only 5 years have had a drier start to the year than this (1870, 1921, 1929, 1938, 1976). http://bws.users.netlink.co.uk/

June: 50.4mm

I know we often have different figures but I am staggered that you had just around a third of what I did!

I had 25mm from the 4th-5th in thundery showers - how much did you get then?

And on Sunday 12th there were 37.5mm, how much did you have on that very wet day?

Such differences over a small area!

I can also answer that, further away I know, but with only 3.5mm on the 5th and nothing on the 4th. Sunday 12th was a horrific day but we had 21.3mm compared to your 37.5mm!

June had a lot of locally high rainfall totals like 20mm we had on the 18th from thundery downpours, where just down the road in Weston Super Mare had a mere 5mm.

Hi Andy, only just seen this.

I only got 2.3mm from showers on 4/5th, and there was no thunder. Sunday 12th was the wettest day of June, but only (!) 19.6mm fell here. I am too shocked at the huge difference. I guess with showery rain or sunshine and showers some places really do miss out whilst others get pasted. I would have loved to have seen 25mm from showers on the 4th/5th, because things are dry here but mainly because the weather has been pretty tedious here lately.

Onto July's totals, another well below average month rainfall wise, 3rd driest of the year so far. The lawn is looking very gray, some trees are showing a small amount of yellow leaves and there are large cracks in the soil in the fields. Whilst July won't be remembered as a particularly summery month, here as well as many other places, I guess a lot of the days were cloudy and cool, but not necessarily wet.

January: 69.9mm

February: 39.9mm

March: 24.3mm

April: 14.0mm

May: 35.4mm

June: 50.4mm

July: 28.7mm

2011 so far: 255.6mm (the average up to this point is 386mm)

Jan: 160mm

June: 150mm

Seems I live in one of the wettest places in Britain.

WOW, 1800mm is an awful lot. That's more than double the average for here.

I'll go up to July, as August has had no rain yet.

January- 45mm

February- 68mm

March- 8mm

April- 7mm

May- 46mm

June- 54mm

July- 27mm

2011 Rainfall- 255mm

Very dry here, if August is another dry month we could be in serious trouble.

This shows how wet most of Wales is compared to England, I'm near the 2000mm colour in fact.. Some places in the S. Wales Valleys get 4x the rainfall of London.

I recorded 2,200mm in 2009.

Yes, a marked contrast. I recorded 1035mm of rain for 2009 (209mm fell in November), can't see this year being anywhere near that, will be lucky to get half at this rate.

Every single month here except February has been below-average.. I really cannot see us getting that much rain unless we get a storm tomorrow.
