It all worked out well. The tropical low was unable to stay out far enough from land to take advantage of the very good conditions for intensification. It's crossed on shore now just bringing widespread rain  ☔. Temperatures varied from around 25 to 26 over the 24 hour period, the coldest Christmas day since records began in 1941. Most people were thankful of the colder temperatures for Christmas dinner and the end to the months of heatwave conditions.

The tropical that crossed into the NT has moved across the continent and out into the Coral Sea where it strengthened into Tropical Cyclone Seth.

TC Seth is currently moving south south west off the Queensland coast. It's expected to transition into an extratropical low in a few days and drift towards the coast.

The coastal town of Onslow has just equalled the Australian Record Temperature of 50.7 degrees and taking the W.A Record along the way also.
Mardie previously held the W.A record of 50.5 which was set on 19 February 1998.

I am a bit surprised that there has been no report here of the flooding and resulting damage in N E Australia in the past few days. Coastal areas and Brisbane have been particularly badly affected, and the last I heard, the storm was heading towards Sydney. The region has had its wettest summer in 30 years.

I lived in Brisbane for a couple of years. I remember how bad 120mm of rain in one day felt back in Jan 2013, can't imagine what this would have been like. 700mm in 3 days.

One lady from a Netweather 2019 storm chasing trip is in the flood-hit area. She shared some photos. More thundery rain forecast today, and they are awaiting high tide. Basements are being pumped out by generators, no power still

Brisbane and surrounding parts of SE Queensland into NE and eastern NSW have seen more flooding in February and March after torrential rains. La Niña and a very wet 2021 set the scene. With thanks to @CycloneGail for photos and info.

Doesn't surprise me. Have family about 50 miles north of Sydney and they've said how rainy it's been over the last year, raining almost every day. Wasn't so long ago the water in dams for drinking water that served Sydney was dangerously low after prolonged drought.

I.I.R.C., Australia had a prolonged drought through the 1990s and 2000s and maybe into the 2010s? Big changes.

Seems like things have gotten quite cold and wet in Australia since the start of 2021. Quite a change from some of the hot, dry summers of the 2010s. Seems like I've seen reports of flooding and cool temperatures in Australia like every other week/month!
