Currently on 54 heading W towards Greensburg in SC KS. DP is an impressive 69F and temp climbing rapidly, currently 76F after we excited a wavering boundary. Stats are good for today with CAPE’s of around 4000 j/kg and impressive shear values. There is however a cap today but as the low level cloud has now cleared, the chances that the cap will break are improving.

13:42

WOW – DP has just gone up to 71F. Could this be the day for a real big tornado?

14:35

We are heading towards Pratt on the 54 in KS. This was where we saw our tornado a few days ago (well ex-tornado/ funnel). DP still a very respectable 69F and temp 80F. We need to find some Wi-Fi access for data urgently!

16:01

Still heading W and then E along the 54 in SC KS. There are signs that the atmosphere is destabilising and we do have CAPES exceeding 4000 and DP’s around 70-71F at the moment. The only problem is the cap itself – just waiting for it to break – it is a ‘loaded gun’ day.

16:40

Currently on 54 parked up just E of Pratt. Looking E and Se we can see towers building. We have a northerly airflow here yet the clouds move from the South so we must be on the frontal boundary – fantastic place to be. DP’s at 71F and temp at 85F. It’s only a matter of time.

16:50

Just had a phone call from Karen Rhoden. The cap has basically eroded and she tells us that when you are playing with DP’s in the low 70’s now then things can only be good. While I was speaking with her, Gene Rhoden took a call from Tim Marshall, another renowed storm chaser. I have a feeling today will be a good day! Now heading further E on the 54.

16:57

WOW – best DP reading of the trip so far – we have 72F now people.

17:07

Just W of Witchita now. DP’s are a HUGE 73F and we can see a nice tower to our NE at present.

20:04

We waited – and waited and waited. A few towers tried to go up. Those that did go up turkey towered before too long. We have to head N now to be in some kind of position for the ‘big day’ up in Nebraska. Who knows maybe we will get lucky then. We are currently in Kansas City for the night ready for a hard push North tomorrow. Nice thing is, severe storms are NOW building in the area - could be an interesting night!!!!

NO PHOTOS FROM TODAY - BASICALLY BECAUSE NOTHING HAPPENED! THAT IS MOTHER NATURE FOR YOU!!!!
