Well to cloud over almost completely by 8.30am after crystal blue skies at 6.30 is impressive even for here. Sun is trying to make it through but there's huge now clumps of Cu and Sc everywhere, some quite grey. Just a hint of more brightness out to the west though, fingers crossed

Lets hope we get a northerly to blow some of this ash down and give us 5 or 6 inches of it on the ground. That would be the next best thing to snow and at least it would be something interesting. It would also be less dense than snow thus more suseptable to blowing around so we could get some nice big drifts over the pennines.

I can't wait to agree with you in winter when both of us drool over any cold/snow :)

Yes I guess the UK transport infrastructure , wildlife, farmers, retailers, emergency services, the government and general public would be delighted with that. :nonono:

6" of snow that will eventually melt is one thing - how and where do you think we would collect that lot and dispose of it?

The rain would just wash it away. When you have a fag and get some ash on you it just disappears doesnt it.

Clouds of ash off and on today, most of it being blown away though by the strong winds. Very hazy at times though with reduced vis.

I suspect the difference between the ash from a cigarette and 6" of potential cover over great swathes of the UK would fill the drainage system quite quickly - or are you smoking something very big?

Is it coming down really thick and an absolute corker.

I doubt it will effect internet connections though, which could be a shame......
