Cold starry night then like clockwork around sunset a thin veil of cloud moves in, very chilly in rural parts temps must of been just below 0C here, you could see the drops of rain from yesterdays heavy rainfall on crops almost freezing :o

Could be some even colder nights next week with a slack northerly flow.

At least its only a thin veil of cloud for you, 90% cloudcover here till 5pm when the cloud suddenly started evaporating away as usual .

High cloud starting to move in now again which probably means deja vu tommorow.

A very pleasant day to end a very pleasant spring in the main. Light winds and plenty of sunny breaks after a fair bit of cloud first thing with one or two spits and spots of rain.

Temps maxed at 16 degrees - much milder than recent days and feeling it too.

Tomorrow could be dissapointing here with lots of cloud and some light spits and spots of rain at times despite the humid feel and mild temps - not my kind of day.

I've just noted one of the bbc news headlines saying what has happened to our green fields? Not sure about yours but I'm looking at them here - and they are very green thanks to the good amount of rainfall during May. Indeed we have had only a handful of completely rainless days this month.

Shows just how monotonous this month has been round here, with regard to maxima. Only one day over 21C is poor for May, yet the average max was above average! And no max below 14C is pretty rare as well, even May 1992 managed it.

Says it all, very few days with over 8 hours and very few sunless, but so many in the 2-6 hour range (read: 5-8 am and 6-9pm).

Today again it was sunny at 7am, cloudy by 10, yet the showers that we had this afternoon actually seemed to help clear the murk; the sun came out again around 4-5pm which is a good 2 hours earlier than "usual". Yet again it was a 17-18C max.

PS Sorry for the long links, seems I can't post images from that site straight onto here.

As we descend into summer proper quite often the main part of the working day does see significant cloud build up largely due to the warm landmass interacting with cooler uppers. Mornings and evenings often see the sunniest and clearest conditions particularly in showery airstreams and atlantic airstreams. Inland parts also tend to see much more cloud in such set ups during the summer compared to coastal parts.
