Today dawned sunny with small patches of Altocumulus and Cirrus.

I presume a warm front then arrived as the cloud increased with the base lowering quite quickly while a few breaks remained

to allow hazy sunny spells.

16.2c at the moment with hazy sunshine increasing.

The weather in Telford again today, just took out the window, the past month must of been one of the cloudiest May-June spells on record here.

The cloud cleared to give a lovely warm sunny end to this afternoon now. 19c.

Did you not have a sunny day yesterday Conor? Shawbury was the sunniest place in the west mids with 10 hours. Most of England had above average sun for May so perhaps your expectations of the British climate are pitched at an unrealistic level.

My expectations are not unrealistic at all.

This is what its like 9am-5pm, took a few hours ago.

post-2546-0-15683900-1306945530_thumb.jp

However suddenly when 5pm passes, just took this out my window as proof, almost always goes like this in the evening and starts like this in the morning.

post-2546-0-88306700-1306945490_thumb.jp

More evidence of the Telford greyness in action recently.

post-2546-0-75459900-1306945602_thumb.jp

The 15 minutes of sunshine between 9am-5pm has come from little gaps in the clouds like these.

post-2546-0-67989600-1306946225_thumb.jp

Yes there might of been 10 hours of sunshine in Shawbury yesterday but not here, 4:45am to 9am = 4.25 hours in the morning, 9am-5pm = 15 minutes of the course of 8 hours, 5pm-9pm = 4 hours = 8.5 Hours of Sunshine so its easy to see how the sunshine hours can stack up on a rubbish day.

Personally i dont like sitting in the garden or hiking at 7am and the sun moves off the garden in the evening so its a waste of time for me.

There were only 5 days in May that were relatively sunny in the 9am-5pm period here, any sunshine that stacked up for the rest of the month came from the description above.

I wish i was exaggerating i really do but im really not and it never used to be this consistantly cloudy here.

For evidence:

May not above average here sunshine wise,

I can provide plenty more evidence if you still need to be convinced but this post is getting rather long

But that is the nature of British (especially inland) weather, that as I am sure you well know convection is likely to produce cloudy late morning/ afternoon periods. Shawbury (I know its not Telford but its likely very similar), had approximately 175 hours sunshine last month (slightly below average, and that was nowhere near offsetting the very sunny April there and elsewhere:

Recent sunshine Shawbury

Also, this equates to below 6 hours a day on average, and in some years 175 hours would have been the sunniest month of the year so basically last month was far from lacking in sunshine, and if you feel it was you are in for constant disappointment living in Britain:
