    07-08-2011: Monsoonal Thunderous Downpours

A deeply unstable airmass associated with a thundery trough from the southwest brought jus the right conditions to conjure up some monstrous downpours for three days running 6th-8th July. The heaviest and most impressive of these downpours came on Friday 8th, often accompanied by thunder but no full on thunderstorms despite a distant capture of fading lightning on shutter.

The day started with sunshine and cu-nimbs quickly growing.

The first out of two strikes to the north, I caught on camera.

I then followed the cell by driving into Bristol to go shopping where I was met with torrential rain.

Later in the day, another batch of downpours were looming.
