What Would You Give To Go Into Space?

Just been reading this article on the first people booked to fly on the Virgin Galactic "SpaceShip Two"

The world's first space flight will include a mix of celebrities, scientists, and entrepreneurs who will all have to fork out $200,000 (£123,000) per seats for the two-and-a-half hour ride in the "SpaceShipTwo".

Virgin has revealed that more than 450 customers have already signed up for a series of flights starting in 2013, which will each have six passenger and two pilots travelling to 70 miles above the Earth.

Among the celebrities looking forward to travel into space are comedian Russell Brand, Dallas star Victoria Principal, film director Bryan Singer, designer Philippe Starck, scientist Professor Stephen Hawking, property developers the Candy brothers, and PayPal developer Elon Musk.

So just how much is it really worth to be one of the first few commercial passengers in space?

Not sure that a near space flight would be worth while. Moon or Mars and beyond and I'd jump at it!

I'd want to do something interesting though, an experiment or two of some kind; a passive tourist seat just looking out the window would get a bit boring after a while.

Nothing for me..if it was free maybe but honestly im not bothered about going into space and wouldnt pay for it.

What would you give to go into space? In my case, the question needs turning around............what would i give NOT to go into space. I cannot conceive a more hostile environment for Homo sapiens. I am staying home. In any case, even if I was intrigued by what must be a beautiful sight - I make do with photos - I find space tourism a repugnant thought. What an utter waste of precious resources in a finite world, just so a few people with more money than they need can go up there for a look.

I went into space many times during the 1960s and 70s!

Oh you mean physically travelling there, no thanks I wouldn't go if it was free. I agree with Alan Robinson, above. Scientific research in space is one thing but tourism is quite another.
