looking at the data from Met and GFS on the 06z, unable to see the 00z, and the radar before 0800BST and it does make we wonder, again looking at their forecast for the SW and SE talking of heavy and thundery rain, just why Met did not issue any watches/alerts before the rain caused all the havoc it obviously is causing?

Their own NAE showed 25-30+mm in places, the radar before 0800 showed up to 20 isolated 25mm per hour, so why not warnings?

I'm glad I'm not the duty BBC Met forecaster, they will have to say something I would have thought. Not much help though to those flooded but a warning MIGHT have helped in a few cases.

The wave still has some infill to maintain between Bristol & Andover, the first sequence of which starting just offshore of Exeter and will be catching up with the main precip band into Oxford. Looking at the overall satellite picture there's still a lot of moisture inhibitence around, especially the channel and Bay of Biscay that'll be feeding into this lot until it's axis takes it into the North Sea by tonight.

Thanks for this.

Whitchuch and Overton, both in N Hampshire are showing 62mm and 50mm respectively for today.

No need for a weather warning then!help.gif

Whitchurch is prone to flooding anyway - there's a mill on the river that runs right through the middle of town. I once saw a poor chap with a broom trying to sweep the wash of the passing cars back out of the front door of his lovely Georgian townhouse. i bet they're swimming now!

I've been watching the edge slipping by since about midday, it doesn't seem to want to make much progress east at the moment. The skies look very disturbed, I've seen some serious embedded activity from similar in previous years.

Dear oh dear environment agency. As of 3pm, 0 flood watches, warnings, ANYWHERE. We must all be imagining those homes being flooded, and cars up to their bonnets in floodwater right across the home counties.

There's definately a cell developing just to the SW of Newcastle I am watching it from home now. Sky looks menacing and developing quite rapidly. It may be no more than a rainstorm but a rumble of thunder would be great!

really stupid question but what are those "bubbly" clouds called? There's loads of them developed now and spreading rapidly NE'wards from the SW of here....

What is Rain? Stay safe for any of you affected by flooding. Feel free to send some rain here because weve had less than 10mm in the last month when most of you have had that in One or two hours recently!

Ridiculously dry here.
