If it doesn't warm up soon, today will be the coldest August day I've recorded, with the maximum so far of just 13.3º. This "beats" the previous low of 13.7º on August 20th 2007.

    Rubbish!

Tuesday will be a mainly dry and bright day across most of the UK, with the best of any sunshine in the South of the UK. Temperatures will still be on the Autumnal side, with low-mid teens across most of the UK, with the exclusion of the South East of England, where temperatures may reach 20C, especially where the sun is breaking through. A few showers are possible in the West.

Wednesday is a definite improvement on recent days. We see a weak ridge of high pressure building over the United Kingdom, and as a results the temperatures will be higher than of late, hitting the high teens to low twenties for much of England and Wales, also with a good deal of sunshine on offer for most. It's a mainly cloudy affair for Scotland though with temperatures still struggling to get past the mid-teens here.

Thursday again should be dry for many with the chance of an isolated shower in the West. Temperatures again will be on the increase, especially in any sunshine. 23C could be hit in the South, whilst not too far off in the North of England, 19-21C widely. Still struggling in Scotland though, 15-16C at best, although it will still be a mainly bright affair.

Friday could be a very unsettled day in Western areas, bringing a stronger wind, and perhaps some rain to go with it.

Over the weekend we see the Atlantic gradually regaining control, bringing a low pressure system, meaning a strong Westerly wind and a band of very heavy rain crossing Eastwards.

There is some uncertainty to the exact track of the low, we could well hang on to the high pressure a little longer.

Yep - coldest August day I've recorded in 13 years with a maximum of just 13.3º.

No it's not....rather depressingly, it only reached 12.6º on the 6th of this month!
