Posting a youtube video stating a personal hypothesis does not make a individual a 'scientist' lol. Scientificial articles, evidential data (often from more than one source) and undisputed facts makes a 'claim' a fact, otherwise its just a claim which is unproven. The thing with these conspiritards is they feed off fear and ignorance then use that exploitation to sell or promote whatever rubbish they are marketing for. Its an easy trap if you fall for it but its really nothing more than a money-making gimmick used the public's insecurities and 'freedom of speech' to spout such claims.

So why do you keep posting these things up as statements of fact?!

I post as I see it. I do not claim to be right all the time.

So what now then? Are they going to follow the same orbit and miss by 22 million miles, break up completely or hit us?

most likely hit us, with a 'cluster bomb' effect. instead of one big impact, it will be hundreds of deadly missiles hitting the earth, creating a huge firestorm which will engulf the impact side of the planet

So Elenin's going to break up, slam into the earth and create global firestorms this winter??....that's not good, but to be honest, I don't know what's going to affect us worse...the impacting comet or the mass suicide from the cold rampers in the 'model output discussion' thread when they see this thread!...lol

Even if it broke in half it would be following the same orbit :p

As for the cold rampers, yep. There would be none left.

no, the gravitational effect on the smaller pieces would change their trajectory - towards earth......!

think how far away it is now, add in the effects of the gravitational pull of the sun and other planets and you have a direct heading for earth!...... armageddon!

imagine firing a shotgun at an apple.....

If anything the gravitational effects of planets and the sun would be less on smaller objects.

so why have we not pulled the moon towards us?

think about that one......

Because Earth doesn't have that strong of a gravitational pull, it's outweighed by the sun, which keeps our solar system in its orbit.

exactly, it doesn't need to have. the 'rain of fire' will already be on a collision course with earth by then!

Urgh. You do realise that this comet is 2 miles in diameter? If it broke up and was on a collision course, it wouldn't cause a 'rain of fire'

More like a meteor shower.

It's not even on a collision course, it's 22 million miles away, hardly a walk to the local Tesco.

its 200 miles in diameter and i always drive to Tesco. ironically 2 miles away

That's because the moon is made out of cheese, and the only thing that attracts cheese is Jacobs Cream crackers, hence why the moon isn't pulled in towards us....Hmm, crackers.....that word sort of sums up the conspiracy nonsense about this comet, doesn't it?

there are some theories to support this.

changes in the magnetic field could alter weather patterns and maybe 'global warming' is more down to nature than human activity, as is the widely accepted view

http://www.viewzone.com/magnetic.weather.html

Global cooling.

oh, that explains it........?

Well first there was global cooling in the 70`s then like a flick of a switch in 1987 there was global warming then back to global cooling unofficially as it has cooled in the last 15 years now climate change really.

Global confusing.

It`s been GB cooling since 2007.

That BBC horizon link has got nothing to do with either, thats to do with something else.

eh?? both links have relevance to the subject. you originally posted the horizon link, referring to changing weather patterns. i stated that some studies have shown that changes in weather patterns may be down to changes in the earths magnetic field rather than 'global warming' or indeed that if global warming is happening, then as the studies claim, it supports the theories that it is part of a natural cycle and not necessarily man-made

Anyway, back in the real world, it might be of interest that we actually have two comets in the night sky at the moment - Elinin and Garradd.

In the last few days of September, Elenin will separate from the sun in our morning sky. It will be visible in binoculars in the morning sky for all of October,

Meanwhile, Garradd is currently just south of the small but well-known constellation of Sagitta, the arrow. This arrow-shaped constellation is right in the middle of the summer triangle formed by the bright stars Vega, Deneb, and Altair. The comet will continue moving westward and brightening, reaching magnitude 7.0 on 12 February 2012.

As an avid sky-watcher it really increasingly tedious trying to find information from reputable sources over the internet about Elenin right now - with all the conspiracy armchair experts becoming increasingly excitable in front of their computers. Certainly come winter when we can look back on this episode and the complete nonsense that has been written, and doom-laden websites move onto their next pet theory, let's hope a few members on here learn from the experience.
