I remember a thread like this last year. Anyhow, an August like 1995 and a December like 2010 would certainly feature in my ideal year of weather. Mind I'd like to swap the last week of Dec 2010 with the last week of Dec 1995 please.

Nov 2005 was a good one, a classic switch mid month from very mild weather to frosty sunny conditions, also Nov 1993 was good. Nov 2010 was all about the final week, the rest of the month was preety non-descript it has to be said. Going way back to the annals, Jan 1940 was a superb snowy one here so I'd like to put that in my ideal year.

Apr 2011 would certainly feature. May 1992 was a great month as well.

To add to my list eventhough I am a fan of record cold weather I would also like to relive months with switcharounds from pleasent mildness/heat to sharply cooler/colder conditions in the same month.

Did this a few years ago I remember, there's been one big change since then:

    January 1987

    February 1991

    March 1995

April 2007 (sorry 2011, you didn't manage it here)

May 1992 (that one is way out in front. Nothing else has come close)

    June 2005 (underrated month)

    July 2006

    August 1995

September 2006, but I'll remember this current September well now too.

    October 1997

November 1988 (cold all the way through, but last few days of 2010 were impressive)

December 2010. Absolutely gets in there.

October and March I think are the most difficult, I've gone for Oct 1997 because it had a wide temperature range (including the coldest night of the 97/8 "winter") and less rain than most subsequent Octobers. The Octobers from 1998 to 2006 inclusive were, save for 2003 and in parts 2001, vile.

March 2006 very nearly gets it, but it just loses out because of that long cloudy dreary spell that followed all the snow. 1995 had a similar snowy first half but then a sunny, quite warm end.

I'll take 363 days like today please, with Christmas day and Boxing day snowed in. Every two weeks there needs to be a thunderstorm from late afternoon well into the night though.

May as well see what the average CET of my year would be: using the Hadley series we get Jan 3.4, Feb 1.2, Mar 5.6, Apr 8.0, May 11.4, June 14.7, July 19.7, Aug 18.7, Sep 12.7, Oct 8.1, Nov 5.2, Dec -0.7, Mean 9.00.

The lists may often be sensitive to location. Unlike the previous time I posted my list in one of these threads, I took a very Tyne and Wear-centric view- and to say that July 1983 didn't wipe the floor with July 2006 in this region is a huge understatement. Similarly, I don't think I'd have rated December 2010 as my number one December in East Anglia or the SE.

I'm interested (and pleasantly surprised, as I really enjoyed the month) to see the popularity of March 1995- obviously the desire for a flip to a warm spring at the beginning of March and no further cold snaps isn't as dominant as it can sometimes appear.
