Here's my CET predictions:

My random pin for the cold spell's landed in....January. I don't think we're in for anything unusually cold though:

December 5.6

January 3.5

February 5.1

My estimates;

December: 2.9*C (probably with a mixture of cold and mild spells, but still generally more on the cool side, perhaps with the Jet stream far enough South to encourage Southerly tracking Lows and some spells of wintry weather).

January: 4.0*C (Temperature wise, I guess it could be similar to last January, only with the Atlantic making more of an influence).

February: 5.0*C (Perhaps a chilly start with a possible battle-ground scenario with a front approaching from the South-West engaging with colder air from another area of Low Pressure to the East giving a huge attack of snow to places, particularly eastern parts. I then feel that if La Nina conditions do increase, then a much milder theme may take over for the rest of the month).

Winter CET: 3.96666667*C (according to the calculator, he hee).

December: 2.3c - Mild start with Atlantic LP's crossing SWtoNE with some storm potential, a second half of Northern blocking bringing the first UK wide snowfalls of 2011 from mid- end December.

January: 0.6c - Very cold and dry start, atlantic pushes through by 2nd week allowing milder weather to extend to all of UK by mid month, HP on near continent however

delivers an Easterly flow to East Coasts which begins to infiltrate other areas by day 20 leaving end of January chilly, dry inland, some snow on East coasts.

February: 5.4c - Dry few days to begin with, some snow on East coast, Unsettled weather takes hold again by 5th with Milder, wetter and some windy weather, especially for

Central and Northern areas, unsettled theme remains for a few weeks with a couple of Northerly topplers bringing wintry weather to some.

A more potent Northerly bringing widespread falls at months end.

My take is as follows------ December---+ 2.6c,January---+3.9c,February--- + 1.9c.

Lots of below average winter CETs being predicted. The last time we had 4 below average winters in succession was 1962-5 and previous to this 1886-9 so another one this year would be quite something.
