Tropical Depression 24 W

Invest 98W has become the twenty-fourth tropical depression of the season, about 125 miles east of Hue, Vietnam. Intensity is 30kts. 24W is moving northwards along the western periphery of a low level ridge to the east. The depression should intensify a little over waters of 27C and under moderate shear offset by good outflow. The depression is forecast to become a tropical storm before landfall on the south coast of Hainan Island. Increasing shear and interaction with the rugged terrain of Hainan will swiftly bring about 24W's demise. The primary concern is rain as 24W has a large, intense mass of convection associated with it.
