Sean is now fully tropical and has convection building much closer the the center. Some slight strengthening is forecast before Sean recurves northeastwards into high shear.

MIAMI (AP) — Tropical Storm Sean has strengthened slightly and eventually could bring dangerous surf and rip currents to Bermuda and the U.S.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami said Wednesday that Sean's maximum sustained winds are 50 mph (85 kph). It is located about 450 miles (730 km) southwest of Bermuda and is moving west at 3 mph (6 kph). The storm is expected to make a gradual turn toward the north, followed by a turn to the northeast and an increase in speed. Swells generated by Sean are expected to affect parts of the southeastern coast of the U.S. and Bermuda during the next few days.

A tropical storm warning is in effect for Bermuda.

Sean is strengthening and his intensity is now 55kts. Convection has wrapped fully around the LLC and an eye appears to be forming. NHC expect Sean to become a hurricane tomorrow as shear remains low for the next 24hrs, and sea temps remain at around 27C. Thereafter, shear will increase, weakening Sean before the storm merges with a cold front.

Tropical Storm Sean may grow into a hurricane as it moves between the U.S. East Coast and Bermuda, dropping rain tomorrow on Long Island and Boston. Sean’s winds may increase to 75 miles (120 kilometers) per hour by midday, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said in an advisory at 7 p.m. New York time. The system’s maximum winds are 65 mph, up from 50 mph earlier today. “Sean is expected to produce 1 to 3 inches of rain on Bermuda,†according to the center. Swells generated by the storm are affecting the island nation and the southeastern U.S. coast, “causing life-threatening surf and rip currents.â€

Moisture from Sean, now about 405 miles west-southwest of Bermuda, will “stream northward as early as tomorrow morning†into the U.S. Northeast, said Kim Buttrick, a National Weather Service meteorologist in Taunton, Massachusetts. A half-inch to 1 inch (1.3 to 2.5 centimeters) of rain may fall on eastern New England and eastern Long Island. "Most areas toward New York City won’t see too much rain,†said Joey Picca, a weather service meteorologist in Upton, New York. Sean, the 18th named system of the Atlantic hurricane season, is expected to pass within 104 miles of Bermuda, where a tropical storm warning has been issued, on Nov. 11, according to a 3:30 p.m. forecast by the Bermuda Weather Service. The system will probably have weakened back to a tropical storm by the time it nears Bermuda, according to the U.S. center’s forecast track.

Tropical storm-strength winds of at least 39 mph reach out about 290 miles from Sean’s core. The system is moving north at 6 mph, the center said. Sean will probably be absorbed by other weather fronts later this week, said Paul Walker, a meteorologist at AccuWeather Inc. in State College, Pennsylvania. “It’s not a real strong storm,†Walker said by telephone. Buttrick said a cold front passing through the Northeast will probably keep Sean’s rain isolated to the eastern parts of the region and “push it along in a more timely fashion.â€
