The GFS has also underestimated how low our temperatures can go under clear skies in late November.

Hopeful of the FIRST air frost of the season.

Remember though that the coldest temperatures when skies stay clear is just as the sun rises.

That's a concern of mine. I don't think we will manage to hang on to the clear skies until dawn. That cloud currently over Western Ireland is making inroads very quickly.

6.2C now. >.<

Hey, 4 years ago in the middle of January I used to go mad if the maximum temperature was 5C and the minimum was 2C. It used to be amazing but after last December I know longer think a maximum of 0C is cold nor a minimum of -5C.

You don't have to go back far though, for strange occurences in autumn. :good:

In 2009, my First Air Frost of the 2009/10 autumn/winter season occured on the 1st December. Also, autumn 2006 was the warmest in the CET series (as I understand) and Autumn 2000 was very very wet in many places. Strangely, in spite of the warmth throughout the autumn of 2011, potentially another record breaker, is the continued lack of rainfall.

Back to the topic in hand, it's 8.0c at 19:30, clear skies and the temperature is falling at the rate of 1c per hour here in Newbury, having maxed out at 12.5c.

So maybe, just maybe, I can record my first air frost of the new autumn/winter season. :w00t:

Cheers

Can anyone who lives near me (near liverpool) give me their minimum temperatures since Thursday?

I've just looked on my weather station and it's read a minimum of 0.9C one day since Thursday?

Temp 4.1'c dropping -0.61/hr. After 8 weeks of consistent mild night temps it's a welcome change and something different in a long time. If this was a consistent trend I obviously wouldn't have created the thread, but I think most on here are looking for something to kill the consistent boredom after 2 months of little in the way of weather.

It ranged between 0.5c and 3.5c in the upper Dove valley (200-250m) an hour ago. Although this was measured using inaccurate car thermometers. So there's a fair inversion then.

I'd just spent a good while getting my son to carry out my telescopes for a night of hobbyfun too.....grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Cloud's gone now. Should be around midnight-1am when it comes back, more scattered east of the pennines though... it won't be a very cool night but some satisfactory frosts likely I think.

1.5c here by the way.
