Well would you believe it. Snow in the Spanish Mountains in November. On the same date in the Cairngorms, 9C at Heavy Rain.

That is perfectly normal, the mountains in Spain are much taller than those in Scotland (2000m and upwards).

If Scotland had mountains of similar height then we would probably have some of the best skiing conditions in the world with plentiful snow and a season that lasted from October - June/July I would imagine.

Mountains at 2000m would generally mean at the summit, 5c upper air would deliver sleet/wintry showers! The average upper air temperature in July is around 7-8c in Scotland, and around 5-6c in September, therefore the season could probably be able to last year long :D

At 5000m, then 20-25c uppers would deliver snowfall :o

True, would be very similar to ground above about 16-1700m in W Norway, i.e a snow lovers paradise... :clapping:

Looks like it would be a beautiful place to visit in the Autumn or Winter, rather challenges my view of Spain as an arid and bare place. Certainly when it comes to places that get a fair amount of snow, Spain doesn't exactly leap to mind, keep forgetting it has much higher mountains than we do.

It is a normal view about Spain because Spain is known as the country of Sun and Warm. But it is totally false, just economic interests.

    Spain as an arid

We have big plains that in summer are arids, in Winter are really freezing with minumun temperatures arround -15º and -20º sometimes (there are plains up to 1100masl). However Spring in this places is green with many flower of different colours.

If you go to the North Spain the landscape is the same to Wales or Ireland. So green in the whole year. However in the South-East is like a desert, without trees just rocks and arid´s view. Therefore, Spain is a land with many different landscapes, it has many contrasts. You can be one night maybe at -5º in Madrid and in the same night in Sevilla at 4 or 5 degrees, or in the Summer, you can be at 35 degrees in Valencia, and at the same time at 17º degrees in Oviedo (North Spain).

    Cheers! :drinks:
