Just had some hail mixed in with a rain shower in Chester le Street, a sure sign that the air is getting colder!

Currently heavy snow in Shetland. Approx 2cms fallen in the last hr. Very thick with visibility in the tens of yards.

Update: as at 1925 there is 5cms of lying snow here in Shetland.

Are you sure? Temps, dewpoints, 850's all against this.

Yes it was snow. Who would have thought that real life could happen even when the models say different!

Really heavy snow in the South Lanarkshire area. A total blizzard in fact. Just drove from Glasgow. Roads horrendous. Took this photo of my car about an hour ago. Snow much deeper now.

Snow coming down quite well here between Doncaster and Sprunehorpe, nice thick flakes, its trying to settle but the ground is too wet from the preceding rain.

Average depth was 6.5cm here at 0900 though the main focus of the showers has moved slightly to the north of me since then.

Just been snowing in central MK about 110m asl. Started of as rain but quickly turned to snow and has left a slushy dusting on all surfaces, keeps switching from snow to sleet then back to rain so the atmosphere must be on a knife edge at the minute,

We had 3 rain showers that had sleet mixed in, at about 1030, 1430 and 1630. All started off as rain then turned sleety for a minute or two before petering out. And all started off at about 6C but fell to about 3-4C during the heaviest bursts- the upper air is clearly cold enough, why won't the temperature drop at ground level? It's crystal clear and above freezing now, for about the 5th time this month...

I'd forgotten about this thread. A snow shower this morning around 0715 gave us a 90% cover of 0.5cm which has hardly thawed at all except in full sun.

It's the 5th morning this month with lying snow at 0900.

Another light snowfall this morning. The mean depth was 2.2cm at 0700 but a slow thaw during the day removed 50% of it shortly after midday. Thin patches of snow lying in the shade by late afternoon.

Apparently, just west of London Heathrow will experience Heavy Snow. Whilst London will get only RASN (Sleet) - I am under the impression that the temperatures are forecast to drop to about 2*C tomorrow in Central London, so any rain could easily fall to the surface as snow!!!!

Temperatures get colder as the day goes on, odd that! http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/se/london_forecast_weather.html

Let us know guys and upload some pictures, see what the morning brings!!

Just checked outside and its started snowing here within the last 20 mins, the ground is quite wet but if it continues at this rate we should get a covering.

Light snow up the road here too. Don't think it will settle apart from grass and car windscreens though!
