I would love to see thundersnow but to be honest I can't see it happening, summer is a good time to see thunderstorms due to the humidity and breakdowns and that didn't happen so in winter I less expect to see anything thundery, would be cool though Bristol is well over due a thunderstorm!

I'm surprised to see no warnings out for tonight and tomorrow its still looking bad,

Looking ahead to Tuesday night its looking windy in the North,

And although its 6 days away the GFS seems confident with some sort of windy weather around Wednesday or Thursday next week,

That's all I can see worth mentioning for the next 7 days. I'll issue a wind map later this evening for tonight's wind event.

A bit far away for me, but there is a tightening of the isobars as it funnels up into the Channel around Sussex and Kent according to that chart. Might have to extend this thread for a few more days or someone can open a new one after this current one runs out, if it is still looking likely.

Winds picking up now, gusts to 35mph and it feels positively cold @ only 7.2c factoring in the wind chill.

Looking quite windy over the next few days with gusts around 40-50mph forecast over the weekend with much stronger winds over Scotland, perhaps severe gusts of 70mph+

Looks like the South or most of England have missed out on another oppourtunity to have a proper storm. Doesn't look particularly encouraging next week with just typical breezy days but of course as always more noticable wind in the North! I always expect dissapointment whenever a chart shows stormy weather because we ever seem to get it anymore, hence why I was right about me saying that the GFS wouldn't verify because of what has happened before, and yet again it didn't.

Will probably have to wait until January or February for any more chances of storms now but hopefully we won't have to! :(

I will be thinking of all you storm starved folk back in England when I'm in a big TS when in France next year, can't wait!

Nothing to write home about away from Scotland, 40-50mph gusts over N England during tomorrow perhaps :)

GFS fairly consistent for a very windy spell Tue/Wed next week, but that's to far away to worry about just yet.

Wind really has picked up in the last 2 hours wind is now 17mph with gusts of 28mph. We did have a bit of rain earlier, but the wind blew it through quickly once again so scarce amounts once more!

gusting 76 mph here again 2nite!

http://www.eoropaidh.co.uk/

Still think that is massively incorrect, it's showing mean speeds of 70mph+ being recorded which is violent storm force 11 nearly hurricane force 12 and I'm pretty sure NW Scotland would have a red alert in place if this was the case, it was showing this the other day when other stations over the Western Isles were reporting winds of only 15-20mph. Plus the gauges are indicating the gusts are lower than the mean speeds.

Using wind data and xc weather wind reports i have created a chart.

post-11361-0-24535900-1322875852_thumb.g

The strongest gusts shown on xc weather in the North i expect are high ground and exposed locations.

Based on latest gust reports and predicted winds(data) for saturday.

GFS 18z

3am, see the tight isobars over many areas, this is why its so gusty and the rain fronts attached to the deep low pressure system in the far North to creating the gusts, but look up at the far North, very tight swath of isobars there, this is the severe gale gusts,

11120303_2_0218.gif

9am

isobars open out across the South allowing for less winds, and less rain, might just get the sun shining!

up North the isobars are closer together, this allowing a tighter flow and very gusty weather.

Doesn't look particularly windy to me next week with just colder air around then we have been used to and just typical strong breezes!
