Then this should help you spot the snowflakes SS! (better than that creepy lampost!)post-1989-0-07224100-1322996833_thumb.jp

Christ. The neighbours would be ringing their lawyers round here if that appeared in the yard.

I don't really see the forecast coming off because showers are making it well across the central belt without many problems and if you look at their forecast for tonight the showers seem to intensify and organise more, which should make it even easier for them to get across the central belt. Radar and lampost watching is the way to go tonight I think! :clapping:

Wow the Campsie Fells just a few miles to my north have been pasted right down to low levels. I would imagine that blizzardo in Campsie Village would have been pasted aswell. Just my luck, few miles to the north is snowmaggedon and here and it's nothing.

Not surprising. What was surprising was that a shower made it to Embra this am as usually dissipate over the hills to the NW. Anything more today will be a Brucie bonus as far as I'm concerned

The MetOffice and BBC forecasts in these situations are usually just a panicky now-casting response to whats already happened. Best thing to do (and we all say it a 1000 times every winter) is to keep all eyes on the radar and use local info from other posters as to what may be coming down the line in the next 30 , 60, 90 minutes etc...

Edit: currently most activity is dissipating pretty rapidly away from north and west coasts and to the lee of high-ground. So conditions are not quite favourable enough to get big beefy showers spreading all the way across to all parts. Not quite enough instability aloft I imagine, the air is pretty heavily modified (and relatively warmed) after that long sea-track.

Yeh, its a nice picture from my back garden. I'm just at the foot of the hills so only 400 feet asl and the only covering is on my car. I think the lying snow level is about 600-700 feet. Hopefully there will be some showers getting through for us later this afternoon.

no i think you just missed it , it was just a blizzard..

Perhaps. But I've seen Aviemore with 2 feet snow depths and large piles of snow by the roads from ploughs.

I think later on it is predicted that few more organised areas of precipitation will make it's way through. Also by then the uppers will be colder so I would imagine that we will see snow later. Here in Torrance the last snow shower we had was at 1am.

My kids are rolling about less than half dressed complaining at the heat while me and Mrs Catch are cold...that's a sure sign of getting old.

Parts of Scotland are going to get a pasting:

I'm not joking, I think there's a polar low just north of Scotland! Look at radar and satellite!

BoyCatchIII just has a vest and nappy on, I seem to remember when I was wee that I didn't feel the cold.

Looks like it's going to snow again soon, this is a good sign as I wasn't expecting anything until tea time today. The shower that passed south of me earlier is still going strong, looks like Scottish Skier might get some scrag ends from it.

Good to see the snow reports rolling in! Should be an interesting 24/36 hours. No real prospect of any snow here on the Fife Riviera of course but it's a lovely winter's day out there at 3c under clear blue skies. Hopeful of my first air frost of the season tonight!
