The formation of a tropical depression from invest 93W has broken the silence in this very quiet end to the West Pacific season. TD 25W is located west of Borneo in the far south of the South China Sea and has an intensity of 30kts. The depression has a well defined LLC with convection displaced to the west due to shear. Shear will cap any significant intensification as 25W heads westwards towards southern Vietnam. JTWC forecast a peak of 40kts. There is a chance the LLC could survive the trip over southern Vietnam and then head towards Malaysia but this is uncertain

Well, what an example of just how difficult it is to forecast tropical cyclone intensity! Shear has dealt a crippling blow to 25W this evening, with convection becoming disorganised about an increasingly ill defined LLC. 25W will likely not last the night.
