I don't think one should underestimate the heat transfer of the oceans. Ocean currents acount for a significant proportion of the poleward heat transfer in low latitudes. Indeed , recent satellite estimates of the required total poleward energy transfer indicate that the previous figures are too low. The ocean transport may be 47 per cent of the total at 30-35 deg. N and as much as as 70 per cent at 20 deg. N The Gulf Stream and Kuro Shio currents are particularly important.

This obviously has a significant effect on atmospheric circulation. Taking into account the breakdown of the thermohaline circulation as well I suspect that temperature in the UK would be a few degrees lower than they are currently. Nobody is suggesting, least of all me, that we would be similar to Russia or Sweden. In fact I'm not sure why Russia is even in the discussion.
